Okay! Oh, and Patrice DID rock! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Patrice Rushen & Brenda Russell were ALL THE RAGE back in the late 70's.
They were truely waaaay too much for them "middle men". Seeing a fiercely independent black female instrumentalist wasn't an everyday thing @ that time. And as for Baby fingers AKA Trice. Hip-Hop owe a big part of their legacy to her since they started out using her music and Chic's as samples. That album and this are my FAVE Trice albums in a row:
Remind Me is the fuckin' jam I have ALL of her albums except Shout It Out. Hope prestige/fantasy records reissue it

Gladly. Can I go raw dawg on her too? "But what of black women? . . . I most sincerely doubt if any other race of women could have brought its fineness up through so devilish a fire." -- W.E.B. Du Bois --

I would love to. But uh, yeah, Patrice was very talented. Showed P some things, musically. She's on "For You", but goes uncredited. Turned down a few good songs from P as well. I have a few of her things. The girl can slang on bass guitar too! SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm Well since sosgemeni is always confusing orgers' genders, it would be a good idea to have everyone list their sex in their siggie.

I must say I always felt that all the "next stevie wonder" crap with alicia keys should have been "next patrice rushen". But yeah, Patrice is the real deal, even though I've only listened to a few of her tunes, I can still tell.
Btw, blackguitarist mentioned she played bass. What tracks? Also, what did she do on "For You"?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Voices..You picked a winner. Patrice was/is cool. She played rippin' bass on "Forget Me Nots". Patrice came pretty close to rivaling Prince in the bass and keys dept. I don't know if it's true, but I heard she programmed some of the synths for Prince on the "For You" LP. Also, I think she sang backup vocals on "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad" on the "Prince" LP.

Yeah, I mentioned that earlier in my post. I know Andre sung backing voice on "Why You Wanna" although u can barely hear him. I don't hear Patrice no where on that cut. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
