(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay

I've probably heard this song for the 1000th time! This Otis Redding classic both scares and saddens me every time I hear it. He wrote this song while relaxing in Sausalito. He recorded it on December 7, 1967, three days before the airplane crash that would take his life and four members of his touring band, The Bar-Kays. How do you all fell about it?

Sittin' in the morning sun
I'll be sittin' when the evening come
Watchin' the ships roll in
Then I watch 'em roll away again
Yeah, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watchin' the tide roll away
Sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the Frisco Bay
I have nothing to live for
Look like nothing gonna come my way
So, I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay
Watchin' the tide roll away
Sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

Look like nothing gonna change
Ev'rything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people want me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same

Sittin' here restin' my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
Two thousand miles I roam
Just to make this dock my home
Now, I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay
Watchin' the tide roll away
Sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

This song is definitely a timeless classic by Otis. I have found memories of my parents playing this 45 single on the turntable.

My ex-brother-in-law is an ex-DJ. He is as crazy about Otis Redding as I am about Prince, so you know at every single party, he absolutely wore that song out to the point that I could care less if I ever hear it again. Let him get to feeling his Crown Royal and he will play Otis Redding all night long.

Otis is OK but I've heard him enough to the point that I could scream.
Andy is a four letter word.

wow i was just downloading some old Otis songs (These Arms of Mine is a beautiful love song) and talking to my dad who listened to Otis during his time. The Rolling Stones' Satisfaction is an original Otis as well as countless other songs of his that were redone by other artists (Respect, Arethat Franklin). When his body was pulled from the lake, he was still in his seat from the plane but holding his breath, frozen. Truly tragic. He was in his late 20's when he died and had so many great songs by then but had a promising career ahead cut short.
