It sends chills down my spine... but not in a good way!!

I mean, seriously, in 1969 you had Aretha singing about "R-E-S-P-E-C-T", now you've got Beyonce warbling about bringing some guy his slippers! Please - is that really progress??

All this stuff about "my life would be purposeless without you," "so much of me is you," and "your wish is my command" - that's just plain scary!

If I had my way, there'd be Parental Advisory stickers all over that shit!

Cater 2 U

Baby I see you working hard
Wanna let you know I’m proud
Let ya know that I admire what you do
Don’t know if I need to reassure you
My life would be purposeless without you shake

If I want it (got it) when I ask you (you provide it)
You inspire me to be better
You challenge me for the better
sit back and let me pour all of my love let a

Let me help you
Take off your shoes
Untie your shoe strings
Take off your cuff links
What you wanna eat boo?
Let me feed you eek
Let me run your bath water
Whatever you desire
I'll supply ya
Sing you a song
Turn the game on
I’ll brush your hair
Help you put your do-rag on lol
Want a foot rub
Want a manicure
Baby I’m yours
I wanna cater 2 u boy

Let me cater 2 u
Cause baby this is your day
Do anything for my man
Baby you blow me away
I got your slippers
your dinner
Your dessert and so much more
Anything you want,
Let me cater to you
Inspire me from the heart
Can't nothing tear us apart
You all I want in a man
I put my life in your hands
I got your slippers, your dinner,
Your dessert and so much more
Anything you want,
I wanna cater 2 u

Baby I’m happy you're home
Let me hold you in my arms
I just want to take the stress away from you
Makin’ sure that I’m doing my part
Boy is there something you need me to do
If you want it, (I got it)
Say the word and (I will try it)
I know whatever I’m not fulfillin’
another woman is willing
playboy
I’m gone fulfill you my body and spirit
I promise ya
I'll keep myself up
remain the same chick
you fell in love with
sad
I'll keep it tight
I'll keep my figure right
I’ll keep my hair fixed
be rockin the hottest outfits
When you come home late
Tap me on my shoulder, I’ll roll over boff
Baby I heard you,
I’m here to serve you
this love you need
to give it is my joy
All I wanna do is cater to you boy

Let me cater 2 u
Cause baby this is your day
Do anything for my man
Baby you blow me away
I got your slippers
your dinner
Your dessert and so much more
Anything you want,
Let me cater to you
Inspire me from the heart
Can't nothing tear us apart
You all I want in a man
I put my life in your hands
I got your slippers,
your dinner,
Your dessert and so much more
Anything you want,
I wanna cater 2 u

Wanna give my class
my strength
my will to live eek
That’s the least I can do

Let me cater to you
Through the good, the bad
the ups and the downs
I’ll still be here for you
Let me cater to you
Cuz you’re beautiful
I love the way you walk
Fullfill your every desire
Your wish is my command
I wanna cater to my man
Your heart
So pure your love shines through
The darkness we’ll get through
So much of me is you
I wanna cater to my man

Let me cater 2 u
Cause baby this is your day
Do anything for my man
Baby you blow me away
I got your slippers
your dinner
Your dessert and so much more
Anything you want,
Let me cater to you
Inspire me from the heart
Can't nothing tear us apart
You all I want in a man
I put my life in your hands

you guys are taking the song the wrong way.....what does Aretha Franklin's respect and this song have to do with the other.

The song is just talking about taking care of your partner. Simple. No need to call NOW.

These are exactly the lines that made me so sick to my stomach.

I work with teenage girls, and I die inside a little bit every time one of them starts singing or listening to this song.

Rhonda, I disagree, honey.

Young women singing that their lives would be utterly purposeless without their men, and basically presenting themselves as having no needs of their own, is damaging to young girls. I thought that unrealistic expectations of women to be chefs, massage therapists, errand girls and sex slaves to their men, while always "lookin' tight" had finally passed on.

And just for the record, if the tables were turned and this were a man singing it to a woman, it would be just as pathetic, albeit free of the associations with decades of gender oppression.

Funk Mistress:
I see where you're going with your comments but your blowing Rhondas comments out of proportion. She's not implying that women being overly submissive to men at all. She was just saying that the song was about doing something special for your mate.

My post wasn't about Rhonda's comments, though. It was about the song. The point I disagree with Rhonda on is that the song is simply about caring for your mate and nothing more. I just don't see it as harmlessly as she does.

Again, I want to emphasize that I feel that you're taking Rhonda's comments about the song out of proportion. I have to agree with her that the song in no way is condoning being overly submisive to men and is about treating your male mate special which is not wrong if you're in love.

I aint really no fan of Destinys Child, but I do like them though. "Cater 2 U" is one of DC's best songs. Im feelin it to death. But the song is seriously being taken out of context. The song aint even about women being nothing without men. Remember this is from the same group that made "Independent Woman". Whats wrong with wanting to do anything/whatever for your love partner? It aint like they said they wanted to lick his dirt of their man's boots or anything.

Not "a man", but "her man". And vise versa even - even if its one woman singing to another woman. Most people who are in love with each other feel that way. The song aint even talkin about sexes or gender; its about being madly in love. Why dont y'all not understand about that?

I don't give two pumps and a stroke about being madly in love with someone and I don't care if she is just talking about her man. I've been in love before, madly and never thought the other person was my reason for living, my purpose in life. Fuck that. If that person moves on or croaks, you no longer have a purpose in life? lol

i know, right? i'll be damned if i'm gonna hem and haw over every single thing my woman needs or needs to be done. it's called self-sufficiency, and this song (and thankfully i haven't even heard of it existing...till now) exhibits none of it. it's just sad.

it's one thing to do something nice for the one you love, but this kinna shit? totally another.
