Jamiroquai...."A Funk Odyssey" I was in a record store on the other side of town this weekend and finally came across this CD and bought it, thanks to a recommendation by David Eye. Once again, David Eye is THE man because this 2001 release is great from beginning to end. There's only two songs, I'm still trying to get into and these are two of the slower ones.
This album is a great mix of funk, disco, and house.....and best of all,....NO damn hip hop!!! If it weren't for some of the house drum machines on some of the tracks, I would have sworn that this album was recorded in 1977 rather than 2001. Anyone else feeling this album? Andy is a four letter word.

This is the best album I have heard in this decade so far
"Love Foolosophy" is the type of catchy dance track that Michael Jackson,George Michael or even Prince could use!

"Love Foolosophy" is the type of catchy dance track that Michael Jackson,George Michael or even Prince could use! That's one of my favorite tracks. I've only listened to the album straight through, once, but I keep going back to the first track "Feel So Good". Has he released anything since then other than his upcoming album? That's what I love about Jamiroquai. They use an "Old School" approach to making music. With a few exceptions, they mostly rely on production techniques that were widely used in the late 70s.They act as if the hip-hop generation never happened, lol. It's so refreshing to hear a modern-day band keeping this type of music (funk/disco) alive.

They released a "Late Nite Tales" album, which is a compilation of the songs that inpired them.It includes songs by Kleeer,Leon Ware,Ramsey Lewis,Rufus and Chaka Khan, etc.

I love the way this song segues into the next song "Little L".It takes me right back to the late 70s,when disco songs would segue right into the next track (Donna's 'Bad Girls' album).

From what you've heard, does the upcoming album have any similar syle music as "A Funk Odyssey"? Andy is a four letter word.

One track in particular---"Main Vein"---sounds like it was recorded in 1978
Two slower tracks---"Picture Of My Life" and "Corner Of The Earth"---remind me of 'Sitkol'-era Stevie Wonder.

Corner of the Earth is my song!!!!!

I have the new CD 'Dynamite' already. It's a Japanese import. The US release comes out in September.Yes,the music is similiar to 'A Funk Odyssey'....alot of disco and funk, but they add a little more rock to the mix on a few tracks. But I think 'A Funk Odyssey' is the superior album.

I'm glad you told me about it because "Picture Of My Life" is one of the tracks that I skip and the hidden track sounds good. He was making sure that track was hidden. Andy is a four letter word.
