Artists and Bands with Outstanding Imagry

Who do you think, as an artist, puts a lot of time and thought into thier "look" and imagry that is associated to them. I know many do...but few do it well...consistantly.

Special CD/Vinyl Packaging
Posters
Tour Books
Videos
Pictures taken of them
Etc.

Two of my favorites are Pet Shop Boys and Pizzicato 5

David Bowie and Madonna master this.

It works actually better with individuals.

Why is that? I think duos do well as well. Bands are a bit harder.

With bands and duo's, it depends on how much of their respective persona seaps through in the concept of their whole,
thus determining whether or not they are to be recognized as individuals within the boundaries of the concept.
The more the concept elevates from their sole beings, the more their imagery makes up their persona and the more
effective the image turns out to be.

Also, an individual has the ability to respond to changes more easily. See Björk, see David Bowie.

Agreed. Of all current acts, she is the most original and daring.

Saint Etienne always has fantastic art production - every album has a spread of gorgeous photography, and every album also includes an essay by a successful contemporary writer...and I'm a big fan of liner note essays, so this always makes me very happy. smile

These guys have always had interesting...and specail packaging for all artwork and singles.

However, strangly, it's a polished act. It's more gloss than grit. I find the contents of their albums to be VERY lackluster and uninspiring.
