With all the hits that the Jane Child thread has gotten recently, I thought she would have been posted here already.

Are they any good? I'm assuming you mean the new pornographers - and yes, they're eminently fantastic. Seventies-style power pop with crunchy guitars, splashy keyboards, sunny harmonies and infectious songs. Letter From an Occupant is one of the more addictive songs you're ever going to hear, and The Laws Have Changed is almost as good. They're one of the few Canadian bands of recent years that I'm completely, thoroughly enthusiastic about. I actually think Canadian music is depressingly mediocre, at least from the p.o.v. of the music I like - indie rock, pure pop, that kinda thing. If you compare us to Australia/New Zealand (a reasonably equivalent match going by population sizes and economies) and consider the innovative and excellent bands they've produced (Go-betweens, Triffids, The Clean, The Chills, The Bats...), Canada comes off quite poorly, I think...

The New New Pornography
I was at a show and we were talking about artists from Canada (yes, because of this thread*!). It was loud and we both were yelling in each other's ear. Person #1: Have you heard of the [incomprehensible]-ornograph--? JANFAN4L: Say what?! Person #1: [incomprehensible] PORNOGRAPH--*! JANFAN4L: Say that again. I'm sorry it's really loud in here. Person #1: [sounded like] PORNOGRAPHY*! THE NEW NEW PORNOGRAPHY*! PORNOGRAPHY*! CHECK THEM OUT. JANFAN4L: [still didn't understand] OHH, YEAH, OK*! ::changes subject::

A few of them also did production work on fellow Canadians, Tegan and Sara's latest album to give it a similar sounding new wave-indie-power pop sound.

And even today (as R&R history shows), It's very difficult for an all-female rock band to stay together. Too many women problems (egos, PMS, etc.) can ruin success easily in this music industry.

"...and dont you 4get it..." 've heard this brotha's stuff on the indie lable and its cool. However, I found that they're were only a few good cuts on his US released album. This brotha needs better material. Also, he needs to stop trying to jock Steve's 70's sound. [Edited 8/1/05 2:34am]
