Iggy Pop-a-palooza!

Anyone getting the new Iggy Pop box set this week? It's got all kinds of stuff from the days of the Stooges, all the way up to his latest album - plus it has a few goodies from compilations and whatnot, including the song he did with Debbie Harry for 'Red Hot + Blue'....I ordered my copy for cheep on Overstock.com, because of course, it's all about the O.

And I also ordered the new director's cut DVD of John Waters' CRY-BABY, which of course features the acting talents of one Mr. James Osterberg. nod

How much more Iggy could one person want?

You mean the two CD Anthology "A Million In Prizes". I will deeply consider it since I have no Iggy Pop stuff but am a fan. Looks good. I wanted to buy his last CD but kept putting it off. I saw him live with the Stooges a few years ago....wow! "Skull Ring" stuck out as one of the new songs although it's better live then recorded.

yup, that one. for some reason i thought there was a bonus DVD, but i think that's being sold separately. i've heard mixed things about 'skull ring', as well as most of his recent stuff...i quit buying his albums after 'avenue b', which i thought was kinda dreadful and depressing, though i think there are always at least one or two really good songs on his albums, which i hope is represented well in the anthology.

I have "A Million in Prizes". It's a fairly predictable run through his career. Lots of great things missing (like why only ONE song from the seminal "Funhouse"?), no "Pumpin' For Jill", "Shades", "Avenue B", "Loco Mosquito", "Pussy Walk", "VIP" but a good helping of "The Idiot/Lust For Life", so all in all well worth getting.

The DVD is released simultaneously. It's from the "Avenue B" tour of 1999/2000. I haven't nought it and doubt I will. I would have preferred a live CD from that tour, because I think "Avenue B" is one of his most underrated albums. In its own way, it's as good as "Lust For Life", albeit focusing on a different kind of lust.

Seeing The Stooges play Funhouse here in August.

"Skull Ring" is great. Buy it. You won't be disappointed. If you are, I'll buy you a drink in your town if I ever set foot in it (and provided you don't live in the middle of a trailer park in Plummer, Idaho). "Avenue B" isn't dreadful at all. It's very funny, albeit in a despairing and middle aged kind of way. You'll be able to relate to it someday, Anx.

i just remember when 'avenue b' came out (which, oddly enough, was during a time when i spent a lot of time on avenue b lol ), david bowie had also just released 'hours' and it seemed like iggy and david had both released their "HOLY SHIT, I'M OLD!!!" albums. even though 'hours' isn't exactly one of my top bowie albums, i really liked his take on aging and loneliness, even if he claimed it was more of a character album than an autobiographical statement. iggy's album just seemed...i dunno...sad. more vulnerable than i really wanted to experience. maybe a bit indulgent, i dunno. i mean, god bless him for making an honest album that takes this piss out of his own invincible rock god image, but it just felt a little painful to listen to at the time. now, who knows, maybe if i revisited it i'd really like it. shrug

Thx for heads up, gotta love all that is the original Punk Rock God, Iggy Pop.

Why does music have to cost so much money? I feel like I work to get a fix sometimes.

Yeah check it out again. The title track is a complete classic, right up there with his very best songs, and "Long Distance" comes pretty damn close too. And those spoken word interludes are downright hilarious, especially "She Called Me Daddy": "I was always ashamed she read Cosmopolitan. I should've been proud of her".

As said before, it's on there. It would be a shame if didn't. That was a pretty big hit. Sounded a bit like the stuff that evantually became some of the bigger hits of alternative radio in the mid ninties.

nod True. This is what's the tragedy of it all. Once again, Iggy is ahead of his time.

not to mention, it's just a really great rock duet ballad.

i got my copy of the anthology in the mail today, and i'm not disappointed in it at all. it sounds great, it has a really nice selection of songs, and the liner notes go on and on. i thought it would be in a slightly more delux-a-riffic package like some of the rhino anthologies (which i thought this was, but it's on Virgin), but oh well. i likes what i gots.

One thing about it is that his face and vocals reflect the grittyness of Rock N Roll and thats what I dig about Iggy.

LMAO. I was talking about a character in the movie Cry Baby. But I spose that'd be a good nickname for the ol' Iggster too. lol
