Anxiety said: as long as it's more "station to station" than "black tie white noise" - bowie's been able to get pretty funky now and then, but sometimes, especially around the early '90s or thereabouts, he had a frightening habit of venturing into the realm of lite jazz. i thought there were a lot of moments on "black tie" where he sounded a bit bored...i'd love to hear another bowie soul album where visconti lights a fire under his butt.
Songs like Disco King, 5:15, Slip Away, I Would Be Your Slave and a few others seem to be going in that Young Americans/Station to Station direction. Especially like the ballads from those albums, i.e. Word on a Wing. I just think it'd be great to coincide with the Young Americans 30th Anniversary reissue. And I love that style of music and singing from him. I think Visconti could help him pull it off quite nicely. | |
