"Bring Me The Disco King" is the shit! That was the tune that made me buy that CD. The whole CD is cool.

And it was written around the time of 'Black Tie, White Noise'. geek

I have an interview from around that time where he mentions it. I'd love to hear the Nile Rodgers version.

next time you come over, i'm queueing up my bowie reality tour DVD with my bowie reality CD and i'm putting you in a damn chair between my television set and my stereo and then i'm going to hit play on both at the same freakin' time.

and i will videotape you listening.

then we will play back said videotape and review, taking great care to analyze your reaction when you realize THE SAME FRIKKIN NOISES ARE COMING FROM TWO DIRECTIONS!!! nuts

God, this sounds like a 2 hour argument I had with a mate on holiday about 'Stereo vs Mono'. (rolleyes Don't ask). Apparently, there's no such difference. lol

I guess he redid it for "Earthling" too. Can't imagine that one so well.

It's taken me two years to finally jump on the wagon, but I am LOVING David Bowie's "Reality" album right now. Don't know why. It seems perfect for this summer - a bit jaunty and as he called it, "thrusty", but at the same time, it's got the perfect bit of melancholy, which goes down nice when I think about how lucky we all were last year to have Bowie AND Prince touring the U.S. extensively. I sure miss that this summer, even with as much fun as I've been having with music festivals this month.

Anyway - while I wait for the anniversary edition of Young Americans to fall my way, "Reality" is giving me quite the needed Bowie fix...even if the reaction has been a bit delayed (I didn't care for it much up until recently).

And yes..."She Drives the Big Cars" is the music he used for the concert intro! nod

Anyone else having fun with this album lately?

Nope. Not me. Dreadful album. Hated it all apart from "Disco King". Don't go near it now. One of Bowie's lamest, dullest, most uninspired efforts since his mid-eighties nadir. It makes "... Hours" sound like a masterpiece. Here's to the Tin Machine reunion.
There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

I'm still not convinced! lol

ditto.

and btw, if it IS the same song, i'll be disappointed. i realy liked the idea of that intro music being something of A New Career In A New Town for the 00's... but if it's just that song, well.... neutral

Well, he launched Luther Vandross's career, so I guess Bowie has had some impact on R&B.

I cannot help thinking that he somehow threw this album together rather quickly so that he had something to tour with. It has potential, but it could be more than it is, IMO.
Now Heathen, that's his f*cking modern day masterpiece!

Agreed again. Saw Bowie live when he was promoting this album, one of my best concerts ever. It rained all day, the heaviest rain ive ever known and we were stuck outside in it, and then all of a sudden, he comes on stage to Life On Mars, the clouds parted and the sun shines through. The man in special.

"New Killer Star"
"Pablo Picasso"
"Reality"
"BRING ME THE DISCO KING"

Ditto. Oh, and "Days" is a nice one too. I'm not sure about the production on that one though.

I just listened to some of the live versions he played of the other tracks on a TV5 music show some years back and they did sound... uhm, VERY boring and uninspired to be honest. But you know, there's nothing wrong with a boring and an uninspiring track once in a while. Just don't make it a habit.

I'll have to pull it out again. I loved Heathen almost immediately, but this one didn't click with me, so I put it away for later. Well, it's almost two years "later" so I guess it's about time to pull it out again.

Watch the live DVD. It paints the songs in a whole new light.

i dunno. i feel like i've been able to slide for the past couple of years without paying - that, or i've been getting auto-debited and i haven't noticed...but i think i'd notice sixty bucks missing from my checking account.

if i had an option to renew, i don't know that i would. or will.
