You're mistaken. The original version of the song was a hit on pop stations, not Teddy's remix. I don't recall ever hearing the Teddy mix on pop radio, but I heard it some on R&B stations. Teddy didn't bring her popularity out of Canada. lol

And I didn't say the remix wasn't good. I said the original version was good all by itself.

talk to the hand hmph!, I am not mistaken. At the end of the day, if it wasn't for the Teddy remix, she wouldn't have sold as many records and became an instant crossover artist period. So you can try to skirt around the issue if you want to but the truth is the truth.

WTF? That's what I said. His remix gave her crossover success.

Another kewl band was the "Dan Reed Network" and a guy named Kevin Paige had some kewl music out.

[Edited 7/21/05 1:58am]

hmmm What ever happen to the Dan Reed Network?

That's a good question. We used to drink Corona's with them in Vancouver and at that time Chucki Booker was in Lakeside playing The Cotton Club as well. Before he went on to be Chucki Booker.

I'll try a google search.

Jane Child! thumbs up!

She's had three albums up through the year 2002, but her first was the best. I love all these songs...

1. Welcome to the Real World
2. I Got News for You
3. Don't Let It Get to You
4. Don't Wanna Fall in Love
5. You're My Religion Now
6. Hey Mr. Jones
7. Biology
8. DS 21
9. World Lullabye

trivia: Robbie Nevil wrote a song or two for Vanity's Skin on Skin album
[Edited 7/20/05 21:25pm]

I love that whole first album too. She did some newjack and grundge on the followup. Very odd.

The intro to "ds21" is gorgeous. That album really is chock full of synths. More then any other album I have heard. "wall of synth" as it were.

Thanx to anxeity mentioning robbie on the other "iconic" (?) thread, Iam gonna get his followup albums. Thanx anxiety.

No I sorry but the remix was fly as hell and there is no denying it. Otherwise, her career would've just stayed localized in Canada if it wasn't for Teddy. Teddy's remix allowed her single to be a crossover into not only the Pop Charts, but the Dance, and Urban Contemporary.

Whereas with Robbie, his stuff was naturally funky. So, he didn't need no damn remix to make his stuff funky. Instantly, his songs charted on Pop and Urban Contemporary without a damn remix unlike Jane's faking the funk ass. lol

I prefer the original. Iam a huge pop fan aswell as a newjack fan. "dont wanna fall in love" sounds so fresh in the days of muted, dull midtempo rnb. It is very in ur face both vocally and production wise. And the synth solo is awesome.

Robbie nevil co-wrote "the right kind of love" for jeremy jordan. AMonst a few others off that album

What's weird is Jane was on Warners so quite naturally they should have had her as a female Prince.

Robbie ain't hurtin'.

He has written a lot kewl tunes for people which means lots of wonderful publishing income.

When that happens we can ask "Where Are They Now?" all we want.

They are at home chillin' counting their money with those drinks with a little umbrella in them.

This is a horrible comparison. Jane is an incredible artist. Her 2nd CD rivals much of Prince's work in its meshing of styles and its pop complexity.
I think she was miles ahead of her time. "Sarasvati" is genius-level work for a pop artist. To this day I have yet to hear an artist write something like "Heavy Smile".

Robbie Nevile vs, . Kevin Paige. That's more like it.

Waa Wa Nee vs. Rhythm Syndicate. See the pattern?

no way Nevile is an awesome songwriter....Had way more hits then Child.....and he plays his own instruments as well...

Just cause you got a hard-on for Childs' doesnt mean this isnt a fair comparison.....

wink

my vote: Dominos!! Dominos!!!

quick question: Neville wrote a hit for someone and that was how he got his own recording deal and scored his first hit Ce La Vie...anyone remember the song and performer?

Since when is the number of hits somebody's had an indicator of awesomeness? lol Jane Child also writes, performs, and produces all her own material. I don't think I have a preference one way or the other for one of these artists (though I don't own any Robbie Nevil), but I'm impressed that a thread that seemingly started as a joke has taken so many hits.

I was absolutely NOT discrediting Robbie; Robbie was cool. I just think they have two completely different styles. Its like comparing apples and oranges. The only thing I see that they have in common is them being white and doing what would be considered R&B music in the 80s. Kevin Paige was more similiar to Robbie Nevil & Judson Spence in style. I like Jane's music, but I'm not at all attracted to her, so the "hard on" is untrue. I think she's a brilliant composer/musician.

Last time I saw her, she was performing on "The Wayne Brady Show" last year. Looked and sounded good. It was probably the coolest thing Wayne did during that show's run. Now, if he could've only stopped taking every opportunity to sing with the musical guests...

I think Jane's last appearance on record was on a Tina Turner tribute album last year.
