Nice songs finish last Open topic here. Why is it that people hate happy pop shit that is meant to make u smile and dance?
U could flip it and say "why don't u want to think whilst listening to music?" etc but really lifes too short to be hearing other people whinging about their life for my tastes. I use to like the proper shit, even radiohead, and great if u live on both sides of the fence, but nice songs always get ragged on. Now anxiety, I know u dont hate corny fluff, but the press do. That is snobbery. And Iam sick of it. Why cant people see what I see sometimes? (pretentious last sentance pause)

Iam not saying their shouldn't be space for all types of music, but ? I have to go back to hear cheese. Whilst rock and hiphop fans can still get their fill. Just wondering why the industry and some reviewers hate that corny shit. I rant, therefore Iam?

Not in UK. But in general, unless its motown or bee gees, not much cheese gets noticed. Unless its too laugh at (ie milli vanilli)

I only know them because u guys talk about them. Not even j lo gets that much notice. We get mcfly, coldplay, keane and from hiphop side, the usual kayne's and destiny childs, who front on their pop image (ie trying to look hard) At least nsync and backstreet boys embraced their cheesiness. Coldplay are just too much [Edited 7/20/05 16:46pm]

Desitny's child are the worst at "frontin'" on being like they are 50 cents ho's. "soldier" was a disgrace (as the org agreed with) Usher is soo serious aswell. Full force get alot of love on here and one of the reaons why was they didn't care if people laughed at their silly songs or image, its all so serious these days. I think debbie gibson was so far behind the times image wise she infact should be cited as maybe one day being ahead of her times (i hope. Basically be urself. Is anyone in pop these days? At least rock they are keeping it real I guess. Uptempo pop seems to spell cheese. Maybe its true, but at least even u can enjoy dancing to it drunk.

You have a point sexofit.
Everybody is making "sad bastard music," in the immortal words of Jack Black in High Fidelity. Everybody's trying to out-Cobain each other in one form or another. It seems our post-9/11 hangover has stuck around far too long. That's not to say we need to hear vacuous fluff. But someone make something that uplifts. I think artists like Common, Prince and Jill Scott are providing some much-needed light. Beck is always good at not taking himself too seriously. In North America, we are choking on fluff. Gurgling on fluff.
So when people say, hey I actually like that fluff, there's a retaliation.

My 2 cents is that a lot of folks on this board have just outgrown radio pop music, which I honestly don't think is that much worse than it was 10 years ago. Sure, we don't have stone-cold, universal classics on the order of "Like a Prayer" or the Beatles or whatever, but we also don't have to suffer through Diane Warren ballads in the top 10 these days, something I'm thankful for.
