I've seen her twice, in London, and on both occasions she went down a storm. The crowd LOVED her. And they were two of the best gigs I've ever been to. (The only drawback was one of my mates fainting - , I mean, - during 'Tyrone'. If you're gonna faint, DON'T DO IT IN 'Tyrone'!!!!!). j/k [Edited 7/20/05 9:17am] It seems like both Erykah and Lauryn Hill have been pissing people off on their tours. Did you guys hear about London? Lauryn was 3 hours late for her performance and told the crowd that she couldn't find anything to wear. I'm like, What The Fuck? I was thinking about going to that gig - thank God I didn't. Lauren is one artist I never thought would treat her fans like that.

I like it because it was spaced out. But I think she wasn't really promoting drug dealing on Danger. I beleive since the song was a continuation of "Other Side of the Game" from Baduizm, I took it as the story that her man fell to the game. GOt arrested: gets out, but he's still hustling and she's trying to be by his side. However, she's afraid for him because there's Danger in the street and the code of the street is shifty and deadly. I love her scream at the end of the track, because it puncuates the pain. that's why she speaks of a Chapter 3 in her post on okayplayer. She going to continue the story.

If our radio stations played music like this, I'd probably start listening again. *He says, trying not to sound like ol' Grandpops.

I heard her say F*&@ Police! when the lights dropped. No one grumbled at my set. That's Badu and if they don't know by now they don't need to be there. She's been breaking it down for I don't know how long and I love it when she does. Anybody who's offended probably doesn't understand it. Hey...go visit okayplayer.com again....Erykah and some poster are having a little interesting convo.

Good grief! WTF? I got 3/4 way through Buttersoul's post and gave up thinking "it's just not that deep". I like what you wrote and was prety much feeling the same way. Sometimes I think people just like to put celebrities/artists on blast in public. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I was cracking up because I once included her in the following group of artists that have touched my soul the hardest: Prince PJ Harvey Bjork Me'Shell N'Degeocello Someone fired back, how can she touch your soul with only 2 albums (before WWU was released). I said "obviously you don't listen to what she has to say". Mama's Gun is part of my spiritual revolution. Her lyrics are saving. Her voice, forget about it I have never seen her live tho I do remember how fierce she was on the tonight show when she did Penitentiary Philosophy with her shaved head. She blew the house down! Going to check out her site. Thanks Rho Oh, and can't wait for some new music. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Tyrone is just one song - have you listen to het entire debut album? It's great music - funky, sort of deep spirited, hip-hop, soulful with a touch of blues and jazz. All that shit describes Ms. Badu. When they came up with the term, "Neosoul," ERYKAH is what they had in mind.

You should really listen to love of my life[an ode to hip hop], it was used in the movie brown sugar...kinda like a response to Common's I used to love h.e.r.

If you are into good soul music, and you don't like Badu, that's almost like being into rock music - and not feeling Bonjovi, or heavy metal and not feeling Def Leopard or Twisted Sister.
