I hope you're the only one. She wrote most of the Eurythmics lyrics, and for me there one and the same.

I think she's one of the best lyricists there is. If I kept a journal (which I never would...too incriminating) and it were set to music, it would sound like a Lennox disc.

Btw: Have you listened to "Bare"?

Keep in mind that the key word here is "solo." I love Eurythmics, and I presume sextonseven does as well. It's her solo stuff I don't really dig.

Yeah, Eurthymics stuff is great, but I find Annie Lennox solo very boring.

I have to say NU SHOOZ, I CAN'T WAIT and POINT OF NO RETURN were great.

Anybody like CATCH ME I'M FALLING by PRETTY POISON?

See, I understand what you're saying. It's just that I don't see alot of difference between the two, except that Eurythmics have a more rock sound because of Dave Stewart's guitar.

To me, that's the only difference. She wrote Eurythmics lyrics, and her solo stuff could be Eurythmics songs. So I don't get how you could like one and not the other.

But since this is a Nu Shooz vs. T'Pau thing, I'll let it go before Anx bitch-slaps me for jacking his thread.

That's another non-NY/non-Miami freestyle track (from Los Angeles I believe). I used to have the album because of the Andre Cymone tracks, but eventually sold it and kept only the 'Catch Me (I'm Falling)" 12".

You already answered your own question. I'm not going to like a record for lyrics alone. There has to be music behind it that appeals to me. That bland AAA style of Annie Lennox solo is not to my liking.

You really think there's no difference between her solo work and songs like Who's That Girl, Here Comes the Rain Again, Sweet Dreams, etc.? Some similarities lyrically, sure. But entirely different sound.

SOME difference, obviously, because of Stewart's input. But the lyrics, the melancholy mood, the points of the songs, are the same. Maybe you've only heard the Lennox songs that hit the radio, but have you heard "Bare?" It's a break-up album, full of all the biting cynicism of Eurythmics stuff. Songs like "Bitter Pill," "Loneliness," and "Erased" stand up against any Eurythmics stuff.

Anyway, my point was not that there was NO difference, only that there isn't enough of a difference to like one and dislike the other. It's all good.

i don't enjoy saying this, but i kind of agree.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE diva, though i do think it's a far more adult-contemporary oriented album than eurythmics' stuff - still and all, it was full of the drama and mood that i'd always expected from annie.

the albums after diva, though, just feel thin. like there's something really integral to what she used to be so good at, that just isn't there anymore.

medusa feels phoned-in to me, though i've warmed up to it JUST A LITTLE over the years.

bare, well - i understand and respect what a personal album it is to her, but it really doesn't touch me very much at all. it just isn't very catchy or intense or memorable in any way to me. it's no fault of her voice - she still sounds gorgeous - it's just the songwriting that i find dull.

There was a freestyle comp (not sure if that song is considered "freestyle" either) that I wanted to order with that song but it went out of print....

You're breakin' my heart. biggrin

"Bare" chills me to the bone, with some of the most perfect arrangements I've ever heard. The voices weaving in and out of each other in "Honesty." The eruption in the middle of "Pavement Cracks." The build-up in "Loneliness." And the songwriting?

Sorry, I know this is an homage to Nu Shooz. Just Annie's a sensitive subject. biggrin

Nu Shooz' "I Can't Wait" was a #3 hit in the U.S. in 1986. I'm not sure how well it did in your country.

I just bought Nu Shooz "Greatest Hits"...well, sort of. It's a CD called "Dance Traxx, Volume 2" that features dance hits from Atlantic Records from 1986 or 87. It has both the mentioned hits in extended verisons along with everyone's favorite Stacey Q (two of her hits, "Two of Hearts" and "We Connect") and Regina's "Baby Love". I got it really cheap at Media Play but it sells for $30+ on Amazon! If I ever get tight for money, I'll need to remember that.
