I found out about him just by picking up "dominoes" (his most famous album) one day. I had no idea who he was, but the cover looked like my sorta bag. He writes for other people quite alot too. Including Jeremy jordans "right kind of love", which is a very fine pop slow jam.

As for jane child, her image was very different to the music. So my "album cover" theory has holes. The jane child cover looks like goth music by stereotype. Instead it is industrial synth a blazing pop. Still dark lyrically (for pop), but nothing heavy.

robbie nevil's "big" album was self-titled, wasn't it? it was just a picture of him sitting out in the woods or something, i remember.

i remember thinking jane child was kind of a punk version of annie lennox - very pretty and talented as a pop musician, but kinda using the image to call attention to her music. i used to love her videos - i thought she had amazing eyes.

U 2 remind me of thefrog and cloudy confused

Annie lennox and jane child do not mix (semi quoting Prince's bland, serious "money and art dont mix" comment on that stupid "rave" dvd)

Jane did do it all though.Like a Prince sorta thing. I got "dont wanna fall in love" video. Which is in black and white. Its ok. She just walks about on the streets, proberly thinking its halloween.

Wow -- I guess we're all on the same wavelength. I almost mentioned Jane Child in my earlier post in this thread. She just came to mind somehow (well, her and Tara Kemp).

NO NO NO

Jane Child was aight and all, but Annie Lennox is leagues ahead of her. You should be ashamed for putting them in the same sentence. mad

sigh of COURSE annie was/is leagues ahead, but i meant more in terms of image. annie used a shock image to bring attention to her talent during the first few years of eurythmics, and i think jane child was trying to go for that same formula - the big difference being, annie actually had/has a sense of theatrics and could pull off the costumes and concepts, whereas with jane, it seemed like more of an empty gimmick. they're both beautiful women, though.

YOU HATE ANNIE? eek That hurts my heart.

Jane may be able to program drums better, but maybe not. Lennox and Stewart programmed some pret-ty amazing beats in the 80's, before they began using a real band. "Sweet Dreams"? And the whole "Touch" album.

i think annie's talent as a musician is WAY underrated. i think people would be surprised at all she contributed to eurythmics' hits over the years. nod

Oh yeah thats true.

Ok, I like a few of their songs. (solo or otherwise). But those early synths are cold and dull. Give me multi layered, warm synths ala jane child over minimalistic new wave synths like early annie. "wall of synth" like jane is heaven for me.

"no more I love u's" is lovely though

Sounds like you haven't listened much to her. Have you heard her cover of Bob Marley's "Waiting in Vain?" Or any of her "Bare" disc? Chillingly beautiful.

And yeah, early Eurythmics seems a bit cold, but they were just making all those early classics with the barest of equipment. Ever heard "Love is a Stranger?"

Back to the thread topic, I just had to get T'Pau's "Heart and Soul" from iTunes. I forgot how much I loved this song.

That's right, they had two jams! But don't confuse their "Point of No Return"'s With Expose's?

Expose:

Taking Me....To the Point of No Return

Nu Shooz

I'm Past the Point Of No Return...

I still have the first Jane Child CD. I remember she first got marketed to alternative outlets--the video for the first single "Welcome To The Real World" even got played on '120 Minutes'. Then after "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" blew up at top 40 radio, the R&B remix by Teddy Riley got picked up by many urban stations. Because of that success, "Welcome To The Real World" was rereleased and promoted to black radio with a new mix by Jam & Lewis.

Back to the original question, Nu Shooz all the way. I still love "Point Of No Return" today. They used to get lots of airplay on the Latin freestyle stations and their two hits regularly appear on freestyle compilations although I never thought of Nu Shooz as freestyle. I mean, they were from Portland. It's not real freestyle unless it's from New York or Miami.

I hope you're the only one. She wrote most of the Eurythmics lyrics, and for me there one and the same.

I think she's one of the best lyricists there is. If I kept a journal (which I never would...too incriminating) and it were set to music, it would sound like a Lennox disc.

Btw: Have you listened to "Bare"?

Keep in mind that the key word here is "solo." I love Eurythmics, and I presume sextonseven does as well. It's her solo stuff I don't really dig.
