Longevity Well I know someone posted some Soundscan Numbers for the week and its good to see Rick Springfield's new "covers" set make a chart Debut at #197 pulling in about 5,000 units or so. This however does not track his Internet sales or Web site advance sales or Pre orders, but Im not here to talk about how Soundscan really is not a good way to judge anything ESPECIALLY the older artists who do most of their Numbers through their own websites. My point of this Post is about LONGEVITY. Whether you like RICK or not doesnt really matter, opinions will always differ, but i think its a testament to Chart 33 YEARS after his first CD "Beginnings" debuted in 1972 and ran itself into the Top 20. Im not saying that RICK will charge into the Top 20, obviously Times change Trends Change Media Changes, but Im just wondering if there is anyone on the current chart will even EXIST in 33 years, I think that sums up the MINDS of the Record Buyers of this generation, its kind of like buying New Sneakers that Everyone has got, NO VARIANCE in Taste.
