although Oh Father is miles ahead of Dear Jessie, it turns out WB was right about the pick. Dear Jessie hit #5 in the UK, while Oh Father broke her string of top 5's in the US, stalling at #20. Oh Father is the one i'd prefer. but Dear Jessie, while awful for the sugar-shock value of it, benefits from not being dirge-like (Oh Father). tangentially, i've always wished that Till Death Do Us Part (Dear Jessie's b-side) had been the UK release. i'd MUCH rather include it in place of DJ in my singles compilation "Awards are like hemorrhoids. It didn't get played much. The video MTV was not happy with. They wanted her to edit out the scene with her mother in the coffin with the mouth sewn shut, and the scene of her being slapped by her "lover". Mads didn't, MTV didn't play the song very much. I've loved that song since the first time i saw the video. I was 8 and in love with Mads. it's a great song and too bad she didn't perform it fully on BAT.
