Z Cult Favorite - In The Light/Zeppelin Led Zeppelin is one of my top all time favorite bands. Have all of their stuff, including a lot of their live stuff. The band was killin'. There's no doubt about that. I dig many of their songs. But my favorite of theirs happens to be "In The Light" from their 1975 album "Physical Graffiti". Great funk groove and Bonham's drums, as usual, are so in the pocket. John Paul Jones's bassline in this, really showcases his Motown influence and of course Pagey, with his great riff. I loved this song from the very first time I heard it when I was little. As a child, and even more so now, musically, this song always reminded me of a Jackson 5 ballad, but rougher. The chord progression and the way John Paul plays the bassline is similar to "I'll Be There" and "Maybe Tomorrow". John Paul and Bonham have mentioned that they were both students of The Funk Brothers from Motown. Anyway, who else digs Zeppelin's "In The Light"? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

BG Baby, it's funny that you should mention this tune. It's funny how some how you manage to get into my mind. This must be a conincindence or maybe not, we're gonna have to discuss this further more candidly later orgnote me. Anyway, I was jamming to this cut late last night as a matter of fact and I did notice Bonham strong sense of rhythm along with Page's tight guitar skills.

"Grafitti" is the shit! That's my favorite Zep LP. You can actually hear Bonham's bass drum pedal squealing on some cuts cuz' he was laying it down hard. This LP has all kinds of jams for everyone on it, but I consider this LP their "funk-rock" LP. "In The Light" is a great cut also. And you're right, It does have a "Jackson 5" feel to it. I kinda thought the same thing about Jimi Hendrix's "Wait Until Tommorow"..but I'll save that for another thread..(lol)..good pick!!

I am not kidding when I say that I was JUST blasting this song about two minutes ago! I came up here to check the org while it was still playing, and I see this! Anyway, yeah it's one of my all-time favorite Zeppelin tracks. It's so hypnotic. The guitar layering is just beautiful. Especially in the fade-out near the end.
