why do lip-synchers use microphones and fake bands?

not picking on anybody in particular, but just looking at the Janet DVD when she's performing All Nite on the Ryan Seacrest show--all these back up singers, band and headset microphone to lipsynch--if you're gonna dance, then just dance and she sings the same 2 songs on much music--, with no band, and they sound exactly the same--but that was always my big gripe with soul train, why get up and there and fake it--anybody whoever heard your damn song knows you're not singing live biggrin

nod

and why, when you've got all the darn equipment there
not use it?

that is sooo stupid.

the best bits is always when they forget that the mic
they have isn't even on and at the end of their show,
or performance they SPEAK into the microphone and
no one hears a word of what they say lol.

doh!
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

so you wanna see what Madonna did on the 90 VMA's for Vogue or what she did during Blonde Ambition for Now I"m Following You when she just danced with no mic and didn't care?

well I tell ya it's really boring when it is just the singer sitting down with a muted microphone, lipsyncing.

bring your back up dancers, but why lug all those damn musical instruments around if you ain't gonna plug them in? and the "musicians" really give you the hard sell, like they're really playing their hearts out biggrin

This question is so tough. I know that dancers are there to fill stage space, and I can't help but think that is the reason for a fake band.

They do the same damn thing at certain raves!

At least certain electronic artists/bands will admit to using a laptop sequencer for most of their performances.
