Eminem to make final bow as solo artist-report

DETROIT (Reuters) - Rap superstar Eminem plans to make his last solo performance in Ireland in September, the Detroit Free Press, his hometown newspaper, said on Friday.

Citing sources close to the 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, the daily also said his current album "Encore" would probably be his last as he moves to full-time work as a record producer.

The final solo appearance of Mathers, the best-selling hip-hop artist ever, would be at a concert in Dublin, Ireland, on Sept. 17, the Free Press said.

The newspaper quoted his manager, Paul Rosenberg, as saying no official decision had been made about the future of the Grammy and Oscar-winning artist who has recorded three top-10 albums.

But Rosenberg said Mathers' current multi-platinum album was "certainly the cap on this part of his career."

Mathers' spokesman at Interscope Records in Los Angeles could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Free Press said the rapper, who has sold more than $1 billion worth of records, has grown weary of the media spotlight and may be musically spent.

"Marshall feels he's said everything he can say as Eminem," one insider was quoted as saying. "The idea that he intended this ("Encore") to be his last record is something that everyone on the inside circle has known for a while."

Another source said "Encore," which was released last year, had been an especially difficult record for the artist to make. "Marshall really struggles to write for himself now, to speak through the voice of Eminem," the source said.

"He knows as well as anybody that there comes a point where you risk beating this thing to death."

The cover shot on "Encore" shows Mathers taking a bow, and its closing song is entitled "Curtains Down."

In the album's liner notes, and in his current concert tour, Mathers has also played up the figurative death of Eminem.

"This is how you go out with a bang, baby," Mathers says in one video," after pulling the trigger of a pistol that misfires on himself.

This isn't exatly the full truth. Yes, it is true Em has been hitting the point where there isn't much more he can say as Eminem, that is because he is maturing. There is still talks of a 3 disc set called "The Funeral" in the works. There is a disc to put to rest Slim Shady, a disc to put to rest Eminem and a disc for the new Marshall Mathers. Of course this is all still up in the air and as we all know as fans of Prince especially, nothing is set until it's out.

Good. As someone who can usually tolerate, or at best, moderately enjoy his music, Encore really sucked.

I love Eminem so much, but after Encore, I think it's time for him to hang it up. To me, the last record sounded like a poor man's version of everything else he's done, and didn't show much growth. I'd really like to see that supposed 3-disc set, though.

What attention would he need? He's one of the biggest rap artist of all time, not to mention very wealthy and well achieved...

I'd say he is playing it smart, and yes.. to some degree it is attention.. he certianly gets long threads at the org whenever there is news about him.

Encore showed maturity. Listening to songs like "Mosh", "Yellow Brick Road" "Mockingbird" and "Like Toy Soliders" he can tell he's gotten more serious since the Slim Shady LP - he aint the same guy he was then. It seems like everything he's been through has gotten to him; funny thing is, I always expected him to ridicule everything. And you know what? When I first heard the title-track of Encore, I knew he was tryna tell us something.

IMHO, Eminem's best songs are the ones when he's serious:

Lose Yourself
Like Toy Soidiers
The Way That I Am
Clean Up My Closet

Now that I think of it His albums ARE in full circle sad

The Slim Shady LP
The Marshall Mathers LP
The Eminem Show
and lastly, Encore

sad

I thought Encore was a great album showing all the poersonalities rolled in one.

The serious Eminem Side:
Mosh
Toy Soldiers
Yellow Brick Road

the funny Slim side:

Rain Man
Big Weenie
Just lose It

the Marshall life side:

Crazy In Love
Mockingbird
Evil Deeds

Ima miss his cute sexy ass, he coupld spit good too. bawl love

cry

bawl

Ima celebrate with my fav. Em song: "Im Back"

I murder a rhyme
One word at a time
U neva heard a mind as perverted as mine
U better get rid of that 9
It ain't gonna help
(What good is it gonna do against a man that strangles himself?)

Best Line Ever from this song giggle

Verse 3]
I take seven -- from ----- stand 'em all in line
Add an AK - 47, a revolver, a nine
A mack 11 and an all assault a problem of mine
A natural old school a bully shot em all at one time
Cuz I'm Shady, they call me as crazy
As the world was over this whole Y2K thing
And by the way, *N'SYNC why do they sing
Am I the only one who realizes they stink?
Should I dye my hair pink and care what y'all think?
Lip sync and buy a bigger size of earrings?
It's why I tend to block out when I hear things
Cuz all these fans screamin is makin my ears ring
So I just, throw up a middle finger and let it linger
Longer than the rumor that I was stickin it to Christina
Cuz if I ever stuck it to any singer in showbiz
It'd be Jennifer Lopez and Puffy you know this!
I'm sorry Puff, but I don't give a fuck if this chick was my own mother
I still fuck her with no rubber and cum inside her
and have a son and a new brother at the same time
and just say that it aint mine, what's my name?

falloff falloff

There are a few white rappers from the Dirty South coming out, but their not necessarily considered to be "emcees" - just "rappers". At the moment, the most prominent one is Paul Wall.

"Encore" wasn't all that. If this isn't all hype to sell tickets and a forthcoming compilation then he's doing the right thing.
