Z Cult Favorite - Paint It, Black/The Stones

Aaah, dig this song to the fullest, ya'll! I love The Stones in general and this is definately one of my faves of their's. Released in 66 off of their album "Aftermath", no song sounded like this one. Brian Jones put his special touches on this track that sent it through the roof. Great music, fantastic lyrics and out of this world production (for that time). There was some controversy regarding this cut revolving around the title. Reporters asked the Stones why did they add a comma in between the words "It" and "Black", so it read "Paint It, Black". As in saying "Hey, Paint it, Steve". Reporters thought the Stones were suggesting that maybe blacks should use graffiti in their inner cities. Although the lyrics don't support this, folks thought that maybe the Stones were trying to slip in a little something on the slide. Just a little side note of info regarding this song. Anyway, who else out there digs this cut?

One of the Stones' best early singles. I completely love it, as well as the album it came from (despite the fact it's not on my version of Aftermath).

nod This was always one of my favorite songs by the Stones b/c of the melodic vibe the song had to it BG Baby. It epitomises that psychodelic time period for sure.

HAHA!!! That's true Legsbaby..Remember Marsha Hunt? She was a bad mama-jama in the style of Pam Grier and Betty Davis. Mick loved that chick so much she gave him his daughter Jade. Again, this is from the man that said:"Black girls just wanna get f*cked all night, I don't have that much jam". WHEW!..Remember the controversy behind that???!!??

How about from "Brown Sugar" "Just like a black girl should!". The "Some Girls" album was originally titled "Black Girls", but the label wasn't having it.

Great tune nod

I think it also has the potential to be a great live jam, with some interesting musical avenues to explore in an impromptu vibe. Alas, I don't think the Stones (save for Keef) have the musical know-how to do that these days.

I'm not a huge Stones fan, but this is one song of theirs that I truly love. I first remember hearing it in my teens in the mid 80s as the theme song for a weekly TV series on the Vietnam war (the name escapes me at the moment).
