WHAT TO PEOPLE THINK OF THIS CD?

Saw him perform last night in LA at a small venue... vastly different from Pumpkins or even the ill-fated Zwan...

Haven't been here in a while - hope this topic hasn't been hashed out (no search option)

How was the show? How was it different?

Just heard that he is on Leno tonight

well, It isnt great.. but there are a couple songs on it that I dig

and

To Love Somebody

i'm not into the pumpkins too much but i love the new solo disc.

this album has gotten the worst reviews I've read recently.....never was too impressed with Billy, not as a person nor as a musician!

Well yeah, it did get very bad reviews and I can see where
they're coming from.

However, a lot of the things the critics slagged off are
the kind of things I like in Corgan's songs. Like the drum
machine and the childish electronics with distortion on
top of them, or his angst ridden teenage lyrical content
coupled to a darker more vampirish side of his which has
undertones (or aspirations) of Byron.

Having said that, the second part of the album contains
some miserable attempts at songwriting. Makes you wonder
how a man who was able to write 4 discs worth of material
in one year seems to be struggling now to fill a single
disc with material (only 11 songs). And mediocre tracks
at that.

that the past week I've been listening to a lot of his
Pumpkins songs. And they were so great.

It's like comparing new Prince songs to 1987 ones, you
just shouldn't do it. But you can't help but notice that
something's missing, you know...

There's no "Rotten Apples" or "Eye" to be found on this
album. Although "Mina Loy" and "Camera Eye" and "Strayz"
can compete with his better songs any day.

I loved that album so much! Haven't heard it in ages since I
don't have a copy of it anymore though. And I refuse to have
it as mp3s from a download, I want the original album.

Just have to wait until I stumble onto it again, that's all.

I'm thinking of making a compilation of pumpkins
tracks that are drummachine driven with those eh
kind of electronica effects.

Like "eye", "destination unknown", "waiting",
"love", and some of the Adore tracks obviously.

TheFutureEmbrace sounds like leftovers from Adore, stuff that wasn't good enough to make it on the album. I LOVED Adore, and the album still sounds great today. But the songs on TFE are poorly written and range from blah to downright annoying. He mangled the BeeGees cover too, it sounds unfocused and depressing.

Thanks Tom for saying it. I was waiting for someone to make this point. This was the first thing I thought when I heard the album on my Launchcast Player. The album lacked orginality and it discouraged me from buying it.

I agree that it does not live up to his past work, the future embrace is a grey area, it's not bad at all, some pretty good songs like the Camera Eye and A100, but it's no masterpiece either.

Yeah.. thats what I did.. a complilation of their electronic stuff.. I loved their subtle electonic work.. Not diving in it like some muscians.. but tinkering with it to give it color and depth

In a full page add released in the Chicago Sun Times and Tribune Billy recently said that he has plans to revive the pumpkins, and that he wants his band back, maybe his heart is still with the pumpkins>

There are kind of a lot from the Mellon Collie era as well. Stuff like Beautiful, We Only Come Out At Night, Thirty Three, By Starlight, etc. And some of the Aeroplane Box songs like Dreaming, Destination Unknown, Cherry, and a bunch more I'm not thinking of right now. His cover of Joy Division's Isolation fits too.

I must have played Set The Ray to Jerry over a million times back in the day, Billy Corgan is well aware of the fact that that song, like Starla , is a favorite among harcore pumpkin fans.
