Yes, I know Rick gave him his start, relax. But Rick soon got left behind by Prince's genius and Rick got jealous and hatin', especially when P came out with vanity 6 and Rick said he stole that idea from him. Maybe, maybe not. But it sounds like a dude that's bitter because Prince's start soared higher than Rick's. But Rick DID try and cop Prince's style of fashion for that cover. Go check the cover for yourself. And no need for ass checking, mine is still in place "But what of black women? . . . Ok, back to P. I never said he wasn't influenced by Rick, but it wasn't a lot because at the tiem they were both contemporaries of each other. So then it's safe to say that Rick was influenced by Prince. But again, where did I NOT give respect and when did I say P invented sliced bread? You and ya sister need to relax - and come get into the bed so we can play house. "But what of black women? . . . In addtion, I am sure if Prince did not open for Rick he could have gone out on two with someone.(LOL).

Funny thing about Rick - As much a she despised Prince, he ened up doing a Prince-inspired album "WONDERFUL" when he moved from Motwon to Warner/Reprise. As far as musically goes, I don't hear any Prince influence on this album. I hear a little Cameo on the song "So Tight", a little hip hop on "Loosey's Rap", and the title track "Wonderful" is pure late 1980s Rick James (not as strong as early 1980s Rick James). I don't know who some of the other tracks sound like but I don't hear anything that sounds like Prince. He even had Paisley-inspired outfits on the cover and inside the album. He looked like a cross between Jesse Johnson and Prince.
Now I said I didn't hear any Prince musically but I definately see Prince influence visibly with the ruffled shirts. The matching print on the hat and boots on one of the other pictures does remind me of the picture from the Jesse Johnson 12 Inch "She (I Can't Resist)". If anything, Rick is guilty of having a big mouth and bragging too much and Prince is guilty of being sneaky and running with it. Rick had definately bragged on putting together a girls group before Prince came out with Vanity 6. Rick had also put out a Stone City Band album before Prince came out with The Time. He even bragged about making a movie called "Alice In Ghettoland" starring Teena Marie as "Alice" long before Prince came out with "Purple Rain". Is there PROOF P stole his "ideas"? A Stone City Band album in 1980 called "In N Out", also with appearances on "Soul Train". Interviews with Don Cornelius on "Soul Train" and in "Right On" magazine about a making a movie. What other things besides the supposed All Girl Group idea did P steal from Rick?
The making a movie idea and the whole protegee idea because Rick had also produced Teena Marie even before the tour with Prince. Rick didn't exactly hold the "copyright" for producing other acts though, because George Clinton and James Brown had been doing it before him. Andy is a four letter word.

Rick was already shocking before the "Fire It Up" tour which he shared with Prince. That's why he was the headliner and Prince was the opening act. Prince definately had his own look but, other than that, his stage presense wasn't shocking until he went on that tour. Prince's shock value (in addition to his great talent) is one of the things that put him on the map. Andy is a four letter word.

If Prince had not done it someone else would have and Rick would have said "Hey he stole my idea." Lot's of artist have had protegee groups look at George Clinton.
