WHere are they now? Luscious Jackson

Anyone know what the heck happened to them? Did everyone stop listening at the same time?

I absolutely loved their debut Natural Ingredients

And of course the fantastic spin off album...

anyone know what happened to them...I see the blonde chicks not on the last album... sigh

Prior to making their fourth album, Vivian Trimble left Luscious Jackson to pursue other projects. Previously Jill and Vivian had made the Kostars' Klassics with a K album, so the prospect of a side project forming out of LJ was not a real scary event. After Vivian left, the remaining three ladies went on to make Electric Honey which was released in 1999.

Electric Honey was perhaps the best overall Luscious Jackson album since In Search of Manny. But even with a lengthy tour opening up for Smashmouth, the album did not sell well and a few months afterwards Luscious Jackson split up. As the news spread online, many of us realized how close we had gotten to Luscious Jackson. Even though initially we were only interested in them because of the fact Kate had been a part of the Beastie Boys from Polly Wog Stew through Cooky Puss, LJ had carved out its own niche and will be sorely missed.

I caught one of LJ's last shows back in 1999 for "Electric Honey". It was a great ( but sad ) show because I knew this was it for them. Gabby was my fave in the group..I thought she was hot. I truly miss this group. They could funk hard when they wanted too.

i *LOVED* 'in search of manny' and i was lucky enough to see them on the small stage at lollapalooza in 1994. they were WAY funky. i think their albums kind of diminished over the years, though i really love the song 'why do i lie' and i can't believe it didn't become an enormous hit song, because it sure sounds like one.

How was In Search of Manny?

I did get to see them the day before fever in fever out came out at this small place in Chicago called Schubas.

'in search of manny' is my favorite luscious jackson album, even though it's really just an e.p. - it's more raw and funky than their other stuff, and a bit less alterna-jangly than most of their later output.

That's what I did too. I had no idea who he was at the time.

And on my way to the Luscious Jackson set, I even saw Maggie Estep in line at some coffee stand. biggrin

I had no idea they even broke up! bawl I mean it's been a while since they dropped sumfin but I figured they were just takin their own sweet time. I consider this band to be in my all time favorites category. I LOVE natural ingredients. Matter of fact the first time I heard it was after taking some "natural ingredients" stoned and walked into one of the most bomb ass house parties I've ever been to in my life. On the TV was really cheesy porn, with this album playing in the background and me..... stoned Been hooked on these chicks ever since.

Another band bites the dust sigh

I ended up with some weird shit from the promo bins. I miss that.

It was so cool, cuz my slot was the 10pm one. During most of the day, every student had to choose a format for their show - indie, dance, jazz, pop, sports, talk, whatever. And they were limited by time. I could come in at 10pm and stay as late as I wanted (sometimes as long as 7 in the morning) and play whatever I wanted. You could have Ministry, Notorious B.I.G. and Prince all within the span of a half hour. lol I don't know if people liked my show, but I had the time of my life!

I really liked In Search of Manny

That EP had a track that reminded me of Tic, Tic, Bang. Anyone know what I'm talkin about?
