Z Cult Favorite - More Bounce To The Ounce vs So Ruff, So Tough

This is for all my funk cousins out there. I love ya'll cuz you all love rock as much as the funk, which is as Flip Wilson used to say "Truly Wonderful". Just wondering, which do you prefer, "More Bounce" or "So Ruff"? Both has wicked, in the pocket guitar that is so in time that Roger actually fucks around and slips out of pocket just for the hell of it. What's your choice?

Man, "More Bounce" HAS to be one of the funkiest pieces of music EVER recorded. EVER! I can listen to that non-stop. But, it has to be the album version. The 45 won't do. But then, u have "So Ruff". In a way, I dig the guitar on this better. Both songs are some o.g. shit. Back in the day, u couldn't play this shit at a party. The very minute this would come on, all hell will break loose. U fuck around and get your ass whooped if u were standing in the wrong place!

Ah damn B!!! You had to pick a hard one, huh? (lol) I love both jams, but "More Bounce" wins this one. That beat with the guitar sprinkle does it all for me. EPMD sampled this one righteously. I remember hearing "More Bounce" mixed in with "D.M.S.R" at a party once...You wanna talk about people dancing so hard that the ceiling almost fell thru? (lol)..as always, you picked a great one. Roger was (amd still is) da' man!

Both jams are great but "So Ruff, So Tuff" is one of the baddest jams ever.

That sounds like a slammin' combination. Then blend in some Barkays, "Hit And Run" and Indeep's "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" and tear the roof completely off the sucka.

I love 'em both, but I gotta give it to Bounce. Man, Roger is one of the funkiest guitarists ever - I used to have to tell the young 'uns that took guitar lessons at the store I managed about Roger, Prince, Jesse J., Jimmy Nolen, Freddy Stone, Ernie Isley and all the other funk greats. It was a shame, but none of them had a clue...

Oh, and my vote goes to So Ruff, So Tuff Sounds like James Brown got abducted by aliens who turned his ass into some kind of cyborg, then sent his ass back to earth...tripping on acid, all the voices running through his head were somehow audible and captured during the recording of this funk bomb.

Ungh! it's tuff... good gawd Ungh! (shucks) good gawd DANCE good gawd
Ungh! GOD GAWD Baby, baby, baby, baby...

I got to go with "Morre Bounce" because it's just bumpin'. You can't deny that bass groove.

That's some funny shit, but just because I understand exactly what you mean. The first time I heard Two Live Crew's We Want Some Pu$$y was when I was like 12 or 13 at the skating rink. At 10pm the rink turned into a "club", meaning no skates, just dancing. Anyway, me and my cousin were kind of chilling, mostly because he couldn't dance. This song comes on, and all hell breaks loose. omg I got my little ass knocked down by some people trying to get out on the floor to shake that thang. evillol Scared the piss out of me, but I went on to love that first 2-L.C. album.

I'd have to go with "More Bounce" but barely. Both great songs.

I remember seeing Zapp/Roger in concert way back in 1982 (with Grandmaster Flash and the Gap band) and standing right about 5 rows back in front of Roger's keyboard (with the neon ROGER sign on it).

They played both songs that night with Roger singing into that clear-hose contraption to get that funky voice. Dayummmmm funky night!

I can dig it! First time I saw Zapp was during the Controversy Tour. They opened up for The Time and P. Anyway, "More Bounce" was the cut at that time. All these girls that were there with the rude boy buttons had to cut loose when Zapp fired off on this. I have mentioned this on this site before: I always felt that the song "Controversy", especially P's guitar, is very influenced by 'More Bounce". The vibe, the tone. Not the same parts, but, similar feel.

Both are excellent tracks! But if I'm gonna hear More Bounce to the Ounce, I only wanna hear the full 9:30 version. I want all that funk at the end of the song. That's the best part of it!
