slash's guitar skills Question for the Org musicians and others more knowledgable about music than I. How good of a guitar player is Slash? I'm no musician, but I like what I hear. How're his technical skills versus other well-known guitar players?

Personally, I think he mixes the flash show-boating fast tricks with a good ear for tasteful melody vey well. He can be a little sloppy at times, but generally speaking, within the Blues/Rock style, he excels. I am a big fan of his. For a similar, if more controlled, style, check out AC/DC's Angus Young (no doubt an influence on Slash's playing). Slash also borrows heavily from one Jimmy Page, of Led Zeppelin fame.

Double co-sign. Whatever Slash lacks technically, he makes up for with feeling and a great flair for melody. I dig him.

I actually met Slash a few times when he was a shipping/recieving clerk at Tower Video on Sunset Blvd. I seen an unknown Gun N' Roses when they first started giging with like, 30 folks in the crowd. Slash can play. He has good influences and he wears them on his sleeve, which is cool. He doesn't try to play it off that he adores Joe Perry, musically and visually. Don't forget the influence of Jeff Beck. I've got some recordings of Jeff playing with Guns and they sound great.
This was around the "Guitar Shop" period so you can hear Jeff do some cool things with the vibrato bar and harmonics. (It comes from Ray Gomez from the Volume CD. He did it first in 1980.)

Slash is a great guitar player and yes sloppy at times but as someone says he makes up for it in other areas. Now, if you wanna hear a flawless guitar play listen to Steve Vai, he honestly can't be human. 6 Strings isn't even enough for him, he needs 7 and he even was so good he has rocked a 3 neck guitar. I'm telling you he isn't human. I have seen him quite a few times right up front and the guy doesn't miss a lick.
Rock on guys and gals! [Edited 7/13/05 13:52pm] [Edited 7/13/05 13:52pm]

I was checkin' out Steve Morse as he played with Deep Purple at Live8. That guy is amazing - I've heard some of his stuff over the years, but never got to see him live. He's got some serious chops. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth
