Rock Star:INXS The search for their new lead singer premieres on CBS tonight.I heard that TLC have a similar reality show in the works to replace Left Eye for a single release.
Maybe it's because I'm old school, but I am offended by this concept.I know this will never happen but dig if you will the picture: The Revolution are back together again and one lucky singer gets to be their new front man. This fall you don't want to miss "I Wanna Be PRINCE" Can U Relate? larry luvlife

Agreed. As a Inxs fan, I felt this show was a slap in the face towards Micheal Hutchenson and his legacy. I only watched alittle bit of the shit and turned the son of a bitch off. There were only a few decent singers on there and the rest was shitty.

reality tv as a whole is pretty sad. honestly, i didn't think about how weird it was until just the other day. everything is reality tv. people thought it was just a fad but it keeps growing. i'm afraid it really may be the future of television. i'm worried that its all gonna go very "running man."

And once they find a singer, how many people will turn out to see them? Do kids these days even have a clue who they are? At best they were a college rock band in the 80's.

I agree that it is impossible to replace a vital member, such as a frontman...But I am interested to know what poeple think are the other options available.
Obviously, a band could just quit...but what if you are a musician and playing is your whole life, everything you ever wanted to do..? So your friend and colleague dies..should you give up too and leave behind all the great music you have looked forward to continuing to play? Or are there other ways to keep this alive, other than just "out with the old guy, in with the new?" Examples: Joy Division: Ian Curtis commits suicide, remaining members continue as a group but under a new name (New Order) Led Zeppelin: Group ends with the death of John Bonham, Page and Plant later work together on new material and radically different versions of Zep material. Or can a new singer work..? how about Brian Johnson with AC/DC after Bon Scott's death..?

I'm sure they are all connected enough still to the industry to be able to find a new singer without being this tasteless...

It figures. Thanks to a friend, I've recently become more aware to the extent of INXS's material and have found many tracks (that weren't from Kick) that I've really been digging.
Now the band has to go and ruin it all. Well, I'm just gonna ignore the show and anything that comes from it and enjoy their older material.

Yes, they had a whole segment about Hutchence at the beginning of the show and repeatedly talked about how hard it would be to fill his shoes. And all of the contestants seem to be very familiar with the band. Incidentally, INXS has toured since his death with another lead singer (a fact that was conveniently omitted from their biography on the show).

At one point in the show (yes, I watched it. ), Tim Farriss chided one of the contestants for forgeting the lyrics to the song she was performing: "If you do that in front of 1,000 people, what's going to happen when you are in front of 50,000?" As if Tim Farriss is EVER going to perform in front of 50K people again. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

Other convenient revisionist history for this show:
They make it appear that Hutchence died while the band was still very successful. In reality, they were already in serious decline (some might say "freefall").
