I'm a huge Suede fan, and i have the Tears album. it's very good... it sounds like a natural progression for the band. To me, I just consider it another Suede album.

sigh

I wish I had something good to report. The CD is fine. But that's it. It may click with me later, but I've only been able to get through it a few times so far. To me, I have no idea why they just didn't still call it Suede. The Tears does nothing that Suede hasn't already done- over and over.

It reminds me of a cross between Coming Up and A New Morning. Soundwise, it feels like Coming Up. But for me, energy-wise, it's on par with New Morning. As in yawn been there, done that.

I dunno, maybe it's just not a good album to try and grip during the energy of summer, but it's not working for me yet.

And to think, I spent good money on it as it was an import!

grrrr!

...disclaimer, often times albums I initially don't like become faves of mine down the road, I just don't see that happening with this one sad

Since you seem to enjoy the album, what tracks are the standouts for you?

maybe they'd be a good place for me to start and try to get into the album a bit...

Well, I absolutely love the album... but that was after seeing the live show. Honestly, to see Bernard and Brett on stage together is electrifying. Bernard is one of my absoulte favourite guitarists.

I'm shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked you compared it to A New Morning in any way. A New Morning is total dog shit (so is most of Coming Up). I think its fresh and lively. But, as I say, seeing Bernard strut his stuff turned me onto it more than anything.

And opinions are what it is all about mate thumbs up!

PS check out the live show if it comes your way

PPS Got tickets for the Charlatans next month!

Maybe you're like my mate. He wanted Dog Man Star Pt2 and obviously its nothing like that, so he decided the album was shit. Only subliminal playing in my car turned him around to the point he loves it and says its the missing link between coming up and dog man star.

interesting.

I'm a weird Suede fan, PS. Dog Man Star is my absolute favorite. but i also am a big fan of Head Music. The lyrics may have been idiotic in many places, but I thought sound-wise it was quite adventurous and fun for them, a nice change of pace. (She's In Fashion is just pure pop bliss!)

I don't know what I was looing for with The Tears. I think I just need a little more patience with the album, though smile

Head Music barf (apart from She's in Fashion & Electricity)

Funny thing is Brett said he was listening to a lot of Prince when he recorded it

you not like the debut, thats probably my favourite?

lol

I knew that'd be your response when I admitted my love for Head Music. If I remember right, Brett doesn't even like that album now...

oh and, yeah I think he was listening to Prince at that time. Isn't Brett a fan of ATWIAD?

I love the debut as well. It was actually a pivotal album in my life. It came out as I was starting to have the rave-haze lifted from my eyes. After 12 months of listening to almost all techno, all the time, I picked up an NME and read about Suede. The comparisons to the Smiths made me curious. I picked up the CASETTE right before a night in the hospital for a procedure. I spent 12 hours listening to that tape over and over again while reading a creepy book.

I left the next day with the tape memorized and myself mesmerized. The rave-haze had lifted. I was free to return to the world at large smile

(thanks to that 12 hour fest with the debut, it always recalls very weird images to my mind of being connected to a gagillion probes and children killing each other- from the book. it's odd, but in a good way)

I started a Tears thread when the album came out and no one replied. Oh well.

I can`t say the album really grew much on me although I have heard it quite often now. There simply isn´t enough progression in it musically or lyrically.
I guess I am just tired of Brett Anderson who always uses the same words in his lyrics. All in all the album is only slightly better than "A new Morning" and it can´t even come close to the brilliance of the first three Suede-Albums.
The album is not bad but i have expected a little more because
Brett stated that he wouldn´t have released the album unless the songs were "absolutely spectacular" and it simply isn´t. Now he even goes on and says that the next Tears Album will be "five times" better than the first one. confused

My favorites from the album are "Autograph", "Brave new Century" and "Beautiful Pain" and the B-sides from the Refugees-Single. My least favorite Tracks are the shitty "Lovers" and I really don´t know why everyone raves about "Apollo 13" which is just blown-up kitsch in my opinion.

Yeah Bretts a fan of ATWIAD, look http://www.suede.ukf.net/...tions.html

Interesting theory on track 7, its true for the tears album, but not suede (IMHO)

Brett recently said that Head Music wasnt as bad as he thought, but I think it is worse lol .

i've never met a single person who got into a new morning at all

I'd have to agree with that. They may not be exactly the same but he seems to keep reusing the same imagery over and over again.

At the Dog-Man-Star Tour they always played "A the world in a Day" in its entirety before the concert. Sadly Bernard had already left them on that Tour so i never had a chance to see him.
His guitar-playing in "Co-Star" at 1:10 into the song always reminds me of Prince. I just can´t remember in which Prince Song I have heard a similar guitar part.

pout

I would have LOVED to see Suede back in the day. I actually had tix to see them at First Ave for their debut album. It was a 21+ show and I was 18, but a group of us kids had actually talked our parents into going to the show with us so we could get in lol

Sadly, the show was canceled. The rumor was that a band member's father had passed away...

Oh well, at least I got to see them at Glasto a few years ago...better late than never!
