Rick James Lives Again On Upcoming Album

from here:

Rick James Lives Again On Upcoming Album
July 11, 2005
By Jonathan Cohen, Billboard

SOURCE: Billboard.com

Tracks that funk legend Rick James was working on before his death last August will form the new album "Rick James Forever," due Aug. 16 via Sanctuary. Although the final track list is not yet confirmed, Billboard.com has learned the set will feature a collaboration with James' daughter Ty, "My Life," plus "Do You Wanna Play?," featuring Johnny Gill and Howard Hewitt.

Other cuts earmarked for "Rick James Forever" include "Taste," "When Your Body's Mine," "Sapphire," "Freak Baby," "Sex Slave," "Deeper Still," "Funk With Me," "Stroke" and "Brass Bed."

Discussions are in the works for a James tribute concert to coincide with the new album's release, but no details have yet been set.

James died Aug. 6, 2004, of a heart attack. The artist, who had battled drug addiction for years and suffered a 1998 stroke, had methamphetamine, cocaine, Vicodin and Xanax in his system at the time of death, according to the autopsy report.

Sounds great. "Sapphire", "Taste"? Interesting track titles! I'm definately looking forward to this. I hope it gets a decent push. I think he probably has a strong fan base even more than a year after the Dave Chappelle sketch...Lord knows the DVD is selling well.

I like the names of the tracks too. Sounds like they could be a bit raunchy just like I like my Rick James jams to be. There's a DVD out? Oh man, I have to get my hands on that!. What's on it?

Yeah me likes it a bit raunchy smile Come on Rick James is known for being sleazy and that's how I like his music. I wish Prince would go back to being raunchy too.

Rick James is a great example of what Drugs can do to talent. He hasn't been average since the early 1980's. The guy is a joke! He is a bitter joke!! You can tell he was living in his past after his head cleared up a few years ago.

He's not the first talented artist to get on drugs and he won't be the last.

He hasn't been average since the early 1980's.

Neither has anyone else from the 1980s. Even Prince for that matter.

The guy is a joke! He is a bitter joke!!

I'll take a drugged out musician over the sober no talent "samplers" that are in today's music scene any day.

You can tell he was living in his past after his head cleared up a few years ago.

Since this is a Prince site, I guess he must have been living in the future when he made the ever popular "Sign O The 60s" way back in 1987 or even the James Brown-like "Musicology" of 2004?
