Teena Marie, the influential soul singer who set stages on fire with Rick James in the early '80s, shares her favorite memory of Luther Vandross.

"The last time I saw him [was when I was performing] in Los Angeles at the Forum three years ago," she said. "That night was magical. Everything that came out of my mouth, God touched me. When I came off the stage, the audience was screaming, next thing I knew I was up in the air. I was like, 'Oh my God, somebody is holding me up in the air.' I looked down and saw the face of Luther Vandross. He was like, 'Girl, you were up in the rafters!' He was just smiling.
I was like, 'I've died and gone to heaven. I'm in the air, in the arms of Luther Vandross.' "
