Sweet Honey In The Rock

Did anyone else happen to see SHITR on PBS this morning.
I also just found out Dr. Bernice J.Reagon retired last year.
Wonderful harmonious group "sweet music indeed"

I saw their documentary and I noticed that they had lost alot of their orginal members. I grew up listening to this group and I have thier first album that they released in the 70's. They started out at my brother's college Howard in DC.

nod True...the group has changed, from 4 vocalist to more vocalist.
They did a funky number with a backing band that was too funky,
but the acappella sound with the stories are way better.
Dr.Reagon final show with group was in DC. I knew they were good
when when i first heard the mantra SHITR but this was not a everyday
or a sometime choice of music. But it's a must have for me now

It's a shame not too many people are hip to them. They were Neo hip before it was a fad.

I believe on the documentary, they said there had been perhaps 30 or so members of the group over the years. The only original member is Bernice Johnson Reagon, who was the spiritual center of it until her recent retirement. Y'all are so right about them. They have an incredible sound and sing all kinds of music! Too bad they aren't more widely known.

Just catching up on the board, had to revive this for a moment. I saw Sweet Honey perform three times in the 80s and they were awe-inspiring..... just wonderful, beautiful, in a class of their own. I won't even try to do them justice because I couldn't then or now - one of the rare acts where I felt privileged to be allowed to purchase a ticket.
