I really can't find anything I dislike about "The Beekeeper" and it's been that way since the first listen. Seems I'm in the minority here, but it's not the first time. you know i feel ya! those two cds should be re-released as a boxed set together, including b sides and outtakes. i can't quite explain it but he two records are related somehow. i don't know...estranged sisters or distant cousins...somehow they work as a pair.

Mythological, impressionistic, introspective masterpieces.

I listened to Little Earthquakes the other day and it's definitely my least favorite of the albums I've heard. I get a little impatient with the songs, there's something pedantic about them, and it reflects so well that 20-something mindset. The subject matter/poetry is more mature in her later works and maybe since I'm close to her age, I'm more interested in the things she's singing about now.

The Tori-speak isn't so out-of-control and there's no meandering musically. It's meat and potatoes--just Tori and her piano (for the most part). That's why I think it's her best album and that's why I like this current tour. She gets down to the nitty-gritty and doesn't mess around with foreplay/afterplay experimentation. She gives it to me straight and hard and leaves me satisfied. Whew! Where's my cigarette? I must sound like Sassy, lol.

I just think that little earthquakes was her foundation and she built everything up from that. I love little earthquakes - it had me hooked from the first listen - but I just think that she has grown into so much more. Little Earthquakes is such a small sample of what IS tori amos, in my opinion. That's why when i listen to Boys for Pele and The Beekeeper, i think of them as the epitome of who she is (both, as an artist and as a person). The two records have this perfect balance of everything she's done in her career, like she's made a little synopsis of herself with either one. I know its just my opinion, and i'm a big ol' tori fag and all, but i just love those two records so much!

But I feel like with every record since, she just shattered past the boundaries set by herself, her critics and her fans. Each of her records was perfect for its time and was my favorite thing at that time, but she's carried me with her every step of the way. Other than Medulla (which I have a hard time placing among her other work), I feel like every record has been better than the one before.

I like 'Debut' probably the least of all her albums. I rarely listen to it.

This is somewhat interesting. iTunes put out an Essentials Collection for Tori Amos. If you're into downloading from their store and have been interested in checking her out, I'd highly recommend this as a place to start. And even if you have all the material, it's interesting to see what she considers important to include as an introduction to her work. Here's the scoop:
Charity was the first to tell me about a new 45-song compilation that you can now buy at the iTunes Music Store, at least in the U.S. This compilation is called iTunes Essentials and simply combines 45 Tori tracks together. (None of the tracks are new by the way!) The cost is $44.55, which is the same cost that it would be if you downloaded each song individually, but you do get the convenience of getting all the songs at once. It would make a great introduction to give to a new Tori fan! You can see the cover to the right. More Details Here is the track listing for this compilation: Crucify - Little Earthquakes Cornflake Girl - Under the Pink A Sorta Fairytale - Scarlet's Walk Silent All These Years - Little Earthquakes God - Under the Pink Caught a Little Sneeze - Boys for Pele Precious Things - Little Earthquakes Professional Widow (Armand Van Helden's Star Trunk Mix) - Boys for Pele Sleeps With Butterflies - The Beekeeper Winter - Little Earthquakes Spark - From the Choirgirl Hotel Past the Mission - Under the Pink Jackie's Strength - From the Choirgirl Hotel Little Earthquakes - Little Earthquakes Pretty Good Year - Under the Pink Smells Like Teen Spirit - Crucify EP Talula (The Tornado Mix) - Boys for Pele Blue Skies - BT & Tori Amos - Music from Party of Five (Soundtrack) Taxi Ride - Scarlet's Walk I Don't Like Mondays - Strange Little Girls Raspberry Swirl - From the Choirgirl Hotel Hey Jupiter - Boys for Pele Me and a Gun - Little Earthquakes Mary - Tales of a Librarian Father Lucifer - Boys for Pele The Power of Orange Knickers - The Beekeeper 1,000 Oceans - To Venus and Back Sweet Dreams - Tales of a Librarian China - Little Earthquakes Bliss - To Venus and Back Baker Baker - Under the Pink Happy Phantom - Little Earthquakes Yes, Anastasia - Under the Pink Cooling (Live) - To Venus and Back Iieee - From the Choirgirl Hotel Snow Cherries from France - Tales of a Librarian Blood Roses - Boys for Pele Sweet the Sting - The Beekeeper Tear in Your Hand - Little Earthquakes Home on the Range (Cherokee Edition) - God EP Angie - Crucify EP Icicle - Under the Pink Enjoy the Silence - Strange Little Girls Frog on My Toe - Talula single The Beekeeper - The Beekeeper
