Cameo/Parkway Records Amidst all this death, I figured i'd resurrect some sounds from the past in my "Rebuilding The Archives" project.
While rooting around allmusic.com deciding what CDs to cop this week, one of the ads showed a release titled... ...Cameo Parkway 1957-1967. Since the artists on the cover and the label names were familiar, I looked at the CD's tracklist and was stunned... Silhouettes - The Rays The Twist - Chubby Checker Wild One - Bobby Rydell Bristol Stomp, You Can't Sit Down - The Dovells The Wah-Watusi, South Street, Don't Hang Up - The Orlons Slow Twistin' - Chubby Checker/Dee Dee Sharp Mashed Potato Time - Dee Dee Sharp So Much In Love - The Tymes Shake Your Tambourine - Bobby Marchan Cast Your Fate To The Wind - Sounds Orchestral 96 Tears - ? & The Mysterians Along with early releases by... Frankie Beverly (The Butlers) Patti LaBelle & The Blue Belles The Five Stairsteps Eddie Holman The Delfonics Ohio Express The Kinks And even oddball singles by... Peter Best... ...Boys (former Beatles drummer) Clint Eastwood... ...Rowdy (his character on Rawhide) John Zacherle... ...Dinner With Drac Part 1 Better known as the Zacherley character (on the left), former 60s horror movie (and later dance show) host. ...This 2 CD set definitely goes on the To Be Acquired list. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Yes, this box set is definitely worth it. This will be one of the best collections of 2005, along with Hip-O-Select's Complete Motown Singles series.
We've been waiting for the Cameo Parkway archive to be mined for so long now that this is very exciting. The set is actually 4 discs, though, and spans about 115 tracks . Many wonder where the fabulous 1965 Doris Troy single "I'll Do Anything (He Wants Me To Do)", released on Cameo Parkway and its Calla subsidiary, is. A bit of a disappointment that it was not included. | |
