dont really see the attraction...listened to all three of their albums and they are pleasant enough but nothing great.....i prefer keane myself...far stronger songs in my opinion.

I used to like Coldplay.....I have this album since three weeks now and haven't managed to sit through it from start to end.....it's a bit pompous, it doesn't settle down like 'Parachutes' or 'Rush....'!

It's up there with A Rush Of Blood To The Head but not with Parachutes, wich is Coldplay's best album to me. I love that acoustic sound of it.
Btw, Speed Of Sound is a terrible first single choice. They should have put out Swallowed In The Sea.

I like it more with each listen, but when I first heard it I was REALLY disappointed.
I think the first half of the album is pretty strong, but falls apart towards the midway point. The bonus track "How You See The World" on the Japanese version of the album is better than most of the album cuts !!! Who decided to cut that off the record?! And, my favorite 2 tracks off the record (Talk and X&Y) are not likely to be singles, so I'm in disagreement with their promotion for the record... AND they had played a bunch of unreleased tracks live on their last tour, and NONE of them made the record?! I was super excited to hear studio renditions of cuts such as "Poor Me" and "Your World's Turned Upside Down" and they are no where to be found. BASTARDS!!!! The cover of Kylie's "Can't Get U Out Of My Head" at Glastonbury was really fucking funny though, so I give them props for that.

I spotted the "borrowed" Kraftwerk bit before seeing in the inlay they have indeed given a co-writing credit to the German electronic pioneers.
Do I win a prize for my eagle-, um, -eared-ness?

I agree. The second half of the album wades in with one or two decent tracks (Hardest Part/Twisted Logic) but struggles to keep up with the first half which is strong. Can't compete with 'A Rush of Blood' for me though easily their best album.

Thought it was dull first time i heard it.
Liked some songs after heard the album a few times. Went to see Coldplay live earlier this week, expecting the show to be shit...and lo and behold, it was fucking brilliant. And many of the tracks i thought were dull as fuck on the album, just totally worked live. Anyhoo, my main feeling about the album is that musically, it's good, & his voice is on top form. But, the lyrics are pretty whimsical, most of the time. He ain't no poet, this guy. Still got some work to do before I like it more than "A rush of blood..." but there are some superb tracks on there.

Endobaby! What's shakin? P.S. I can't believe how many people really like Swallowed In The Sea. The lyric "I could write a song 100 miles long" (instead of "verses long") DRIVES ME CRAZY! I don't know why. I'm thinking of becoming a musician and covering that song just to fix it
