hey

after seeing the studio 54 movie I've taken a small liking to the disco-genre. Problem is I'm a complete iliterate when it comes to disco (I'm sure a lot of orgers think I'm a complete iliterate *period*), so help me out, please. what albums should i listen to...plus if you know some good compilations, don't hesitate to point them out.

My advice would be to stick to these album recommendations if you're new to it, especially if you're going to look for old vinyl. As much as I love disco, there are some bad albums out there. There were an abundance of albums that had one great track and a bunch of filler.

Very true. As much as I love Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" and Amii Stewart's "Knock On Wood", these are basically the only good songs on the album. I had to have these albums for the long version of the song but, afterwards, I found the long versions on a compilation CD.

"Mouth To Mouth" by Lipps, Inc. is a great album from start to finish. There are only four tracks on the album but I love all four of them. Many people consider consider this a disco album even though it was released in 1980 after disco officially "died".

I'm wondering if this album or single was released at the end of the year 1979 and overlapping into 1980. I have the 45 of "Funkytown" and I have the album also. One has a copyright of 1979 and the other has a copyright of 1980. I would have to pull them to tell you which has which.

Donna Summer's "Once Upon A Time". Not only a very underestimated album as far as her career goes, but in the genre as well it seems to be overlooked by the public. That being said, I noticed that the record store in "High Fidelity" and on the set of VH1 classics display the album, leading me to believe this is a favorite among record buyers. It's just too much of a coincidence that they would both display that album.

Just gotta comment, I SO loved that song, I had it on 45 and played the hell out of it (not to mention hearing it on the radio all the time too)! I definitely consider it to be a disco classic regardless of the exact release date!
