Will you forgive Eric Benet ?

Eric Benet, infamous now more for his infidelities against Halle Berry than his music has a new album out or one coming in the near future. I think he's actually a better singer than Maxwell, but that's just me, they are in the same category. I know some here will agree with me that songs like " Feminity , Spend My Life and True to Myself " are quality songs, but he never sold as well as D'Angelo or Maxwell, and he was virtually crucified by the media for his actions. Will you give him a second chance by listening to his new work, even without any support from radio or TV ?

I really could care less about his personal life. The music has to be up to par. His 1st CD "True To Myself" was pretty cool. It had a lot of different moods to it but it flowed well. His last CD wasn't that great. By hearing some of the reviews about the new CD (and the songs about Halle), I think I'm gonna pass on this one. He is a good singer by the way.

hrmph Before the shit hit the fan with my homegirl, I wasn't truly feeling his ass. There was only one song that I like by his ass. To me, he was average and nothing extrodinary. He sure as hell is not D'Angelou b/c his song lack that soul that D has in his music.

I prefer him than D'Angelo (D'Angelo has the potential to be better)
Eric is more confident and has his own style, I like his Jazzy/sould vibe

I've been a fan of Eric's ever since he was in the group with his sister. I own every CD he has released. "Come As You Are" and "Love Of My Own" are two of my favorites off of his second solo CD. My love for him as an artist doesn't go out the window because Halle put him on blast on Oprah. What does that have to do with anything? Eric is not the first person to ever cheat on a spouse and he damn sure won't be the last. Everyone makes mistakes, people need to get over it. I'm pretty sure all the people that bashed him have not lived a perfect life as no one is perfect. Usher cheated on Chilli and no one made a big deal about it. He went on to sell a ton of records, won multiple accolades and continues to go on with his life. Rick Fox cheated on Vanessa Williams and no one dogged out Rick. Why is the Eric Benet/Halle Berry case any different? There is more hate/conern for Eric for cheating on her than for Halle for leaving the scene of a hit and run accident where she could have possibly killed someone.

Is he gonna sing about how much he loves her, need her, want her bullshyt?
lol

Seriously, I have say probably not. I know that it shouldn't matter.
But I have never really got into Bryan McKnight since his divorce. Those guys sing about love songs, make you feel the emotion. Seems a little hollow after what you read about in the mags.
Prince sings about sex, lust, jealousy, love turned bad. His persona matches his music. I feel it is honest. shrug

The cheating was bad, but forgivable. What is not forgivable. Trying to wring every dime out of the sister after he WRONGED her, and then to stoop as low as to try to use his daughter (not THEIR biological daughter really) to get more money. That girl formed a bond with Halle, and it would have not surprised anyone that when Eric and Halle split up, Halle would have dropped the mom act... but the fact is, it appears it was no act. The girl lost her bio mom before she had a chance to really get to know and love her. This was really her first "mommy" and to step between that for the almighty dollar. That is lower than cheating.

His new album is called " Hurricane " and is out now. Whether it's the drama with Halle or just the way radio works, I haven't heard anything from it at all nor have I seen it promoted heavily anywhere. Taking every thing into consideration, he's certainly isn't the worst person to have cheated on a spouse nor will he be the last. I'll give him a chance, he is at least doing something active unlike Maxwell and D'Angelo.

never really paid attention to him, but I liked his cover of "Georgy Porgy" with Faith Evans, like 5 years ago.

I remember reading an interview about my boy Christopher williams (who did not hit her mad ) saying how she was just a normal person with normal insecurities like anyone. As people would ask him "how could u leave someone as fine as Halle".

Halle is just like any other. Or like j lo for that matter.

Halle is far from being like a J-ho b/c there was no way J-ho was going to marry Puffy and accept his bastard children. And as for Christopher Williams , it was actually Westley Snipes that beat the shit out of Halle not him.

Same here. I wouldn't put this dude in a category with D'Angelo nor Maxwell even. He's more on that Kenny Lattimore level. lol Sure he sings better than D'Angelo but D'Angelo does everything else better. D'Angelo is more of a musician... blah, blah, blah...

I'm also tired of hearing about the Eric Benets and Bobby Browns taking all of the blame for these poor relationships. Whitney and Halle have serious issues too. They're all to blame and we don't know what's really going on behind closed doors. None of these people are saints, I'm sure, so let's leave it at that.

In a sense I agree with you on the point of comparing Eric more to Kenny Latimore than maybe Maxwell and D'Angelo, the two of them ( E & K ) were bypassed quickly in terms of fame and radio play and don't receive any amount of coverage even in the Black entertainment media circle. I can look past his character issues and give his album a listen, but not in this present moment, I am backlogged with a ton of music I've bought that I have yet to hear.

I don't think it's my place to blame or forgive Eric Benet, but I have liked his music since the first CD and have been waiting for another since his second. Although I somehow felt good about his relationship with Halle and sorry that it didn't work out, my appreciation for Eric began before they got together and continues. Things happen in relationships that NOBODY on the outside can know and I can't pretend to. I DO like the new CD, Hurricane; got it the first day and it's too bad that it's not being better promoted. I think that has more to do with the record company than with any personal issues someone might have about him and Halle.

I don't know any of the details other than that whole "sex" thing that you couldn't avoid if you wanted to. Don't really care to... but I did see him on some interview somewhere where he refused to comment negatively about Halle. You could almost see him bite his lip.

Thing is, there are 3 sides to any story. In this case: His, Hers and the truth. It's so unfair to hold supposed accusations against a person.

The sex thing: For some it's an addiction/sickness. In this case all parties were consenting adults. As far as the addiction, moral thing etc...that's his private journey. It's unfortunate that we should even know that much.

The music: I heard the samples on his site. They're as good as the last CD, which I remember listening to and saying "the songs are good...his voice is good. Why aren't I blown away?" Still I liked it. I'll probably buy the new one too.

Correction: In this case, there are 4 sides to the story. His, Hers, the truth and the Medias (the side that sells papers).

I think you are right. There are a lot of women, especially sought after women like Halle who would have moved on to a man without issues.
