.Overall, I thought the performance was cornball. Mariah has zero stage presence, and I wish she would drop that fluttering hand motion once and for all. And she is once again channeling her fashion icon, Jessica Rabbit.

nod Your comments are dead on. It's a shame to see that her performance ability has went to shit.

Hey, you're talking about my woman, the love of my life and person I want to give birth to my children. love hug kisses heart Having said that though, she sounded awful last night. She seemed really out of breath through half of her performance. I don't know what her health issues are, but she sounded really flat, raspy and pitchy (as Randy Jackson would say).

One thing I know about vocal singing ability is that one has to learn how to breathe effectively when singing to get the right pitch and tone. From what I remember of my music classes, my teacher would tell me that we have to exhale from our stomach when we are singing; otherwise, the words from our mouth are going to sound nasaly. I don't know if Mariah actually has stuff on her vocal chords or if she had allergies, but she was having problems breathing from her stomach while she was hitting the notes. her vocal chords may have been perfectly fine last night, but if she wasn't singing from her gut, then she was probab;y stressing her lungs out too fast, which is why she ran out of breath.

I never could stand it when she was all whispery on verse of tracks anyway. Never liked her voice - whispered on verses, shouted on choruses.

Pffft!

She would've never made it on American Idol singing like that.

Even Ciara outsang her. mad

Not sure how much of this is true but this is what someone at B.E.T had to say:

"Mariah's Mike was edited for a flat sound better used to sing in a ROOM full of people. There should of been reverb and disonance put on the mic to suit the auditorium and that she was struggling to hear herself and belt so that she could be heard. I also was told she wasnt a happy camper about the mic and sum 1 gon be in trouble! All of it was live except the end note

by the way "We Belong Together" is back at #1 on Billboard HOT 100, with 247 million audience this week, for those who care and her album was certified 3X Platinum

Horrible, horrible performance. Isn't she supposed to be able to sing?

I think every singer is entitled to have their off days. It only takes the most minor things to throw someones voice, be it air con, tiredness, illness, whatever, you cant expect them to be flawless everytime. Its more surprising when its her because her because her voice is her thing and we expect her to have that at least bang on.

To be honest, i think her voice has been going down hill for a few years. I heard her on oprah a few years back and she sounded raspy, it seemed to coincide with the time she started using that whiny / whispery singing voice in the studio, maybe she has lost some power and range.

I´ve seen her singing better, but c´mon it wasn´t that bad. There might be something to that loosing stage presence thing, but I think it was ok. Her songs are IMPOSSIBLE to sing.

Is it me or did she kinda look uncomfortable up there? She looked as if she was somewhat afraid up there. She just didn't look right. I have to see it again tomorrow.

She definitely did look afraid and who knows what circumstances she was singing under. Maybe something happened before she went on or she knew her voice was giving her trouble and was afraid of what was or wasn't going to come out. Each time I've seen her MC has seemed sure during the Mimi promotion and this is the first time where she looked timid and uncomfortable. Whatever the sitch is, I hope she gets/feels better.

No they aren't. An accomplished vocalist should have no trouble with "We Belong Together". It's just a breathing exercise.

Watch Live At MSG to see how effortless singing used to be for Mariah.

I've never been a fan, but after begrudingly accepting a copy of Mimi from a friend, I gotta say: I'm liking it. I know I'm a bit behind, but it's got a nice old-soul vibe through a lot of it. And her voice is less annoying. Didn't see the performance....

I think some of you guys are being a bit harsh. I really didn't think it was that bad. It certainly wasn't her best performance. I boil it down to being an off night. She's still my girl though. Mariah rocks!

I didn't realize there was an issue with the mic. Maybe that's why it sounds like the sound 'drops out---I don't know what else to call it--toward the end. She'll be aight.

she looks great, better than she has looked in the past 5 years or so. No her performance wasn't great, nor was it good, but hey she tried. I know I couldn't get up there in front of all those people and belt out a song after having a nervous breakdown, a failed marriage, and poor record sales in the past 5 years. I commend her for not hitting the crack pipe, and instead trying to turn her life around. clapping
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

OMG! you guys are totally OVERREACTING! that wasn't magnificent but it wasnt bad either. here i was downloading it expecting the absolute worst and was surprised at how good it was (well good compared to what you's were saying anyway). yes she was off key 2 or 3 times but the only thing that made me cringe was the way her body was moving at the end

People wasn't it OBVIOUS the sound problems she was having...mainly not being able to hear herself (as you can CLEARLY see at the beginning of the performance where she points up indicating to the soundtechs to turn up her foldback so she can try and sing in tune). The audio pops and continual fuck up of reverb effects throughout the performance were nasty too - give the girl a break.

No she didn't tear it up a la Beyonce but she sang from the heart it seemed which I really liked...

I think it just wasn't a well planned performance. I guess she was supposed to walk all the way out on that platform thing but when she started singing she seemed so busy concentrating on not fucking up that she froze where she was. Then she realized how far back on the stage she was so she moved up a little, but then stopped to sing again lol It was pretty painful to watch, especially when that track kicked in & she mouthed the entire ending - she's a fucking HORRIBLE lip syncher! I wish she would have just given it what she had live - so what if it wasn't as perfect as on record, at least it would have been real.

They should have planned for her to sit in a chair or already be @ the front of the stage, the walking out thing fucked her up - I mean really, who can walk & sing @ the same time??? razz

Speaking of fucking up, did anyone notice Michelle of Destiny's Child fucking up a step when they were first descending from the stairs during their performance? No wonder that heffa fell ofstage - she's clumsy as fuck evillol

I know your comment was tongue in cheek, but a good singer who knows how to breathe right can do contortionist moves while singing lol. Mariah has never really moved much on stage, though. Cyndi Lauper moves the most I've ever seen anyone move while belting it out. eek

"Totally nailing" that song would be:

a) Her voice ca. 1995 + the song + live

b) Singing the final note live

I was really disappointed not to see him, too sad It would have been a really great moment.

And that note was there, complete with the usual hilarious reverb from the main version and the part where she attempts to justify the fade by moving the mic away from her mouth oh-so-slowly.
