And you missed my point, I never absolved rappers of any responsibility, I'm stating that both are equally as bad. Forget it, I'm wasting time and energy. Why do I even bother...an exercise in futility. disbelief

You're right. Will's choices of movies aren't above reproach so, yes he should look in the mirror as well. Nevertheless he is right about rappers-- those that know better especially. True thugs should have a voice but not any moreso than somebody like Mos Def. Most true thugs will tell you they don't want to stay in that wild lifestyle as they grow older. However, if they see that they have to perpetuate the image to sell records-- stay out of that lifestyle-- that's what they'll do 9 times out of 10.

This is why my problem is with these media outlets that don't show the natural balance in the "ghettos" and elsewhere. Corporate MFs like Chris Rock and Will Smith himself would have you believe that the media isn't at fault but look who's feeding them. If things were as bad as the media would have you believe the inner cities would be uninhabited by now. The picture they paint isn't helping any that's for sure.

Lord have mercy !!! "True thugs should have a voice " I wonder if you would feel that way if a true thug was putting a gun in your back at the ATM.

I don't think Will or Chris has every put on the blame on indivduals but, let's be real everybody can control their actions. We can't always control the media. Take a little responsibilty for yourself and you can go along way in life.

My point is everybody should have a voice. Learn to read, analyze, and then respond. I used the term true thug because a lot of these fools are phonies glorifying something they don't know anything about. I didn't say they should continue with their bad ways or not pay for their crimes. Unlike you I feel "thugs" are people capable of redeeming themselves. Hell, if I didn't think that I wouldn't continue responding to you. lol Nobody should be defined by a few moments of weakness and then written off entirely.

As for taking responsibility for myself I'd like to think I'm doing that thank you. On an individual level that's all I can do but that doesn't absolve the media, the government and big business of their responsibilities. I do my part by not watching BET, buying certain cds etc. when I disapprove of them.

I think Will Smith is lame.

Therefore, anything he has to say is lame.

I wish he would spend more time making good music instead of shooting his morally superior mouth off.
