i think britney spears, im not a fan, but she is the biggest star of the new millenium. no new singer has become more famous or succesful than her and she is quite interesting, her performances and such are quite good. she set a trend in 1999 for all those other bubblegum solo female singers to come along, and every new singer gets compared to her, and i think when people remeber the music of 00's they will think of her. thats who i pick for the most significant artist, but i would pick pharrell williams for the music, his music is the sound of early oo'. as for justin timberlake, are you frickin kidding me? hes only had one album out and he wasnt even big, i dont know how anyone could come to the conclusion of justin
and another thing is i think most of you are picking your favourites from the year 2000 and above. i havent heard of half of the people your talking about. the thread was about significants not favourites. significants doesnt always mean talented and deserving [Edited 6/28/05 2:03am]

If you are taking into consideration artists who may have released stuff no farther back than 1998 or 1999 and blew up this decade so far, then it has to be Eminem hands down. If we are talking strictly about artists who only released music since 2000, then I would say that it is a toss-up between Coldplay, Alicia Keys and Kanye West.

....emerge meaning have mainstream embrace them?
I'd have to say A.K., only because Pharell has been around since waylong. contrary to popular belief, the what what song (superthug) by nore was not neptunes first beat. And..... Voicescarry said:[quote]Pharell isnt a producer in the classical sense....hes just a dj using recycled beats....blah blah[/quote] Have you ever heard Pharell play that piano? I think not. Yeah, he may sample sometimes (diddy for Puffy, Take you home (sampled PE)for Bow wow, Frontin(sampled MJ)-- does everyone rate an organic beat?), but a good amount of N-tunes beats are made from instrumentals-- especially the Neptunes recent work.... Listen to him play excuse me miss on piano is actually quite something...believe me, i was surprised. When i actually saw him playing instruments is when i started to :lightbulb: listen. Listen to : Beautiful-- snoop, grimey- Nore, By your side neptunes remix - Sade knock yourself out-- Jadakiss i aint heard of that- slimm thugg the life-- jay-z, live unplugged version of give it to me-- jay-z, etc, etc. Put that in your pipe, smoke it and then get back to me.... title edit [Edited 6/28/05 22:25pm] Dynamic Savior Said: Also, do you think that ugly people are God's cruel joke on humanity (like the platypus and the heterosexual) or another form of population control?

coldplay is one of the biggest bands in the world and they are still gathering steam
kelly clarkson has shown herself to be a true force, she has many fans and even more people who are shocked that they like an american idol contestant. She has had enough strong singles now to almost warrant a greatest hits comp.

Anyway, whether or not they are a U2 retread, Coldplay just might be the most significant thing out since 2000. . [Edited 6/29/05 11:12am]

Coldplay significant commercially, i guess. significant artistically? i'm still having trouble with that one. i think coldplay sounds like radiohead-lite, but maybe i'm not hearing whatever it is that makes them so great to people.
