this is a hard question, i think Wilson Pickett probably had the better quality voice, but there was something impossible to define about james brown that enabled him to transcend his voice. but with either of them, it wasn't about their voice, it was about their SOUL.

Wilson Pickett easily, but there's no person funkier than James. He's also extremely mad, which helps...

Speak On it TA Baby! wave Pickett is wicked when it comes to laying down Soul. I grew up listening to Midnight Hour and Funky Broadway.

Don't laugh but nobody screams like the Wicked Pickett.

His voice is really powerful. Download his version of "Hey Jude" with Duane Allman on guitar.

On an old episode of The Midnight Special they put Wilson and The Bee Gees together to sing Hey Jude.

Maurice was smiling clapping stepping further and further back like a scared rabbit. Robin was clapping his hands smiling looking a bit Betty Davis-ish.

Barry was the only Brother Gibb to try to sing with the man to make some kind of duet. And for those of you who saw Wang Chung do "Hot In Here" this was a forerunner to that. One of those fun jam session things.

A lot of vocalists have been given the royal this or that title but two singers who can still sing without dropping the keys to hell are Wilson Pickett and Gladys Knight. And for my Dad I gotta add Lou Rawls. Lou is always smooth.

The thing is to go watch it again and enjoy it with your favorite "adult beverage" or maybe some sort of recreational plant. Feel the surrealism of it if U will.
