This is one of the greatest disco albums ever. Many of Kool and The Gang's longtime fans were pissed when they "went disco",but this album is a masterpiece. It's the perfect soundtrack to a night out on the town in 1979.The title track is one of their finest moments, and this LP includes the must-have long version. Then there's "Hangin Out","If You Feel Like Dancing" and the repetitive-but-fun "Tonight's The Night".Add a couple of slower jams ("Got You Into My Life" and the hit single "Too Hot") and you have a brilliant album.

This is the first album as a kid (3-4) I was able to put on a turn table. My uncle's collection introduced me to music. Kool and the Gang is the most essential musical group in my development.... heart

David - I know you always try to convince us that the 70's were amazing but... lol

Actually, records like these were one of the contributors to the death of disco. I've often wished someone would do a hip hop album like this in hopes that history would repeat itself. evillol

I couldn't have said it better myself. This is definately my favorite Kool & The Gang album from start to finish and it definately makes you feel like you are out partying.

what's funny about this song are the ad libs. There aren't alot of lyrics to this song...basically they just repeat the line "dance with you!" over and over.So it appears that Carrie was forced to come up her own little ad libs (lol) and some of her lines are hilarious,in a fun, cheesy way...

"come on and ho,ho,ho!"
"I like it...I like it"
"I need ya...I need ya"
"so good...so good"
"I'm gonna sing while I swing with cha"

lol that's what I miss about many disco songs...the fun, mindless lyrics

A lot of the disco songs had to rely on the sheer funkiness of the record to make it a hit because it was mainly dancefloor driven and lyrics really didn't mean much. If today's artists had to rely on the funkiness of their songs, they would starve to death. lol

hey

after seeing the studio 54 movie I've taken a small liking to the disco-genre. Problem is I'm a complete iliterate when it comes to disco (I'm sure a lot of orgers think I'm a complete iliterate *period*), so help me out, please. what albums should i listen to...plus if you know some good compilations, don't hesitate to point them out.

thx

MOST PEOPLE ONLY LISTEN TO THE “TOP 40” OF DISCO MUSIC...”I WILL SURVIVE”, MACHO MAN, TURN THE BEAT AROUND, GET DOWN TONIGHT, FUNKYTOWN, ECT. THEY ARE GREAT SONGS, BUT YOU HEAR THEM ALL THE TIME. STUDIO 54 THE MOVIE DIDN’T REALLY DO JUSTICE TO VIBE OF THAT ERA OR THE GREATNESS AND HEDONISM OF STUDIO 54. ANOTHER GREAT NY DISCO WAS “THE PARADISE GARAGE”.

IF YOU WANT SOME GOOD BASIC DISCO, ANY DISCO COMPILATION FROM RHINO RECORDS IS GOOD. IF YOU ARE FEELING A BIT ADVENTUROUS, HERE IS A LIST OF COMPILATIONS AND PRODUCERS YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GET A FEEL FOR THE SOUNDS OF THE MID TO LATE 70’S:

COMPILATIONS ON CD:
DISCO SPECTRUM VOL. 1-3 REAL DISCO FOR REAL PEOPLE

PRELUDE’S GREATEST HITS VOL. 1 AND 2
LARRY LEVANS PARADISE GARAGE
MAGNUM OPUS - 20 DANCE MASTERPIECES
SPIRIT OF DISCO - EXCELLENT
BEST DISCO IN TOWN - VOL. 1-3
DONNA SUMMERS - HAPPILY EVER AFTER AND FOUR SEASONS OF LOVE
SISTER SLEDGE - WE ARE FAMILY (THE ALBUM)
KENNY CARPENTER PRESENTS - STUDIO 54 UNDERGROUND CLASSICS

SOME OF THESE COMPILATIONS CAN BE FOUND IN LARGE RECORD STORE CHAINS, IF NOT AMAZON.COM OR HALF.COM ARE YOUR BEST BET TO FIND THESE TITLES.
