Who u prefer?

I gotta say I love some early fresh prince. But kid n play took them out with "funhouse" personally.

I still love "boom! Shake the room" and "summertime" always works.

But I love my man hammer. Both smith and hammer thought they were credible.

MC Hammer was much better by far. Will Smith was too damn slow.

That's a close call. They both started out legit . I guess Hammer had more going for him (music-wise) so I'll give him the nod.

Yeah hammer went all out on those uptempos. "dancing machine" "count it off" "this is the way we roll". Even early hit "lets get it started" was fast for a hiphop song.

Hammer, even though Will had tremendous cred, once he started doing those chessy movies it went down hill. Right now, Hammer is more hip-hop then Will.

During that time, there were lots of fast rap artists like LA Dream Team, Freestyle, Afro Rican, 2 Live Crew, JJ Fad, The Egyptian Lover, World Class Wrecking Crew, etc. MC Hammer fit in very well with those artists. All these were played on mainstream R&B radio in my area.

In my area, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince was being played on one particular station that had a one hour rap show, once a week, that featured slower tempo, more stripped down artists like MC Lyte, Boogie Down Productions, Public Enemy, etc. These groups were underground in my area and I was happy with it that way.

Oh man this is hard cuz Hammer is the man but I love the new Will Smith cd. I may have to give thie one to Hammer though. Sorry Will.

They were pumping this album big time in the clubs down here during the same time as MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This".

Another fast rap jam to check out would be Gigolo Tony's "Smurf Rock". Also, years before Sir Mix-A-Lot made "Baby Got Back" or even before the midtempo "My Posse's On Broadway".....he had a bad ass fast jam called "Square Dance Rap" and the B Side was a fast jam called "Let's G" that sounded very Egyptian Lover influenced.

I like select songs from both acts, but no (MC) Hammer album is as good as this one here:



There are so many numbers on that album that kids would recite while I was in school, and a lot of them got radio play in my area. I remember hearing Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble, Just One of Those Days, Rock the House, and The Magnificent Jazzy Jeff on the radio. The Sanford & Son beatbox during Rock the House is classic! And then he played it underwater, and I was sold on that tune for life.

Hammer's tunes were good for the dancefloor, but he didn't have a single memorable rap in any of his tracks. In their early days DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince were one of the premier DJ/MC teams. Jeff was a great DJ and Fresh Prince was a great storyteller. It wasn't until the 90s that their act got old.

Alright Sexofit, I'm not going to front. Back in the day, when Will started out, he was fly as shit b/c he has a bad ass DJ. But, he lost his popularity as he became more commercial. However, he may be able to make a comeback with the single Switch if all goes well.

Will Smith.There are at least two songs by him that I like: "Gettin Jiggy With It" and "Summertime".I'm not a big fan by any means,but I can listen to him.

I didn't really like any of Hammer's songs.I always thought he was more of a dancer/showman/entertainer than a legitimate rapper.Many of his songs were just noise,especially that goddawful "Too Legit 2 Quit" song

Well...

MC Hammer is more from the streets. Back in the day, he did have street cred. He used to sell his cassettes out the back of his truck up in Oakland. "Let's Get It Started" used to hit all over the West Coast. And he was easily played next to NWA, Low Profile and other regional acts.

Will was always in the mainstream. He's legitimately hip hop, but he's always been mainstream (read soft). But that's his appeal and what sets him apart.

Will had better jams in the long run. I liked "Brand New Funk," "Charlie Mack (First Out Da Limo*!)," "Summertime," "You Saw My Blinker B**ch," and even his new one "Switch."

The jams crown goes to Will. The street cred crown went to Hammer until he sold out.

Arsenio was a damned lie.....he wanted to know himself. Variety is definately the spice of life and I think Arsenio was tired of just fooling with only Eddie Murphy's dick. He wanted a some variety.

Will. He's simply made more jams, tho he's been a crossover artist from the jump. Had Hammer kept on with the jams he had on his first album (and don't front like some of y'all didn't have it), I'd say Hammer.

were as Hammer's hits relied too much on sampling extremely large amounts of other songs...sure, Smith has relied on that for his too..but like i said, they at least have hits that didnt need "extreme" samples...


im sorry, "You Cant Touch This" isnt a hit for Mc Hammer..Its a hit for Rick James...
