Who's your fav Blues Artist?

For me, It's Howlin' Wolf, there's just something so Powerful and Immortal about his voice and delivery, but lately i've been listening to some older accoustic stuff, and am really beginning to appreciate Blind Lemon Jefferson, his voice is so eerie and plaintive, I love it, so any other blues fans out there?

Wolf played harmonica. He played guitar also to a lesser extent, but his primary instrument (besides that voice) was the harmonica aka "the harp".

He did.
But I believe as an instrumentalist, he was more well known for his harp playing.
(outside of his vocals of course)

a lot of that guitar work is either Willie Johnson who was Wolf's lead guitarist in the first band he put together or Hubert Sumlin who took over lead guitar duties in '58.

To me, Millie Jackson sounds like a blues artist but I think she is officially "classified" as an R&B artist.

Millie would be my favorite if you classify her as blues. If not, my favorite would definately be Denise LaSalle.

I've never really listened to too much piano blues, I'll have to look into these.

Outside of their own records, you can find a few of these cats on other artist's releases...

Otis Spann - Muddy Waters and almost every major old-school blues artist
Pinetop Perkins - Muddy Waters (took over for Otis Span), James Cotton, Buddy Guy, Snooky Pryor, Koko Taylor
Jay McShann - Jimmy Witherspoon, Charlie Parker, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown

doh! Vain Baby, I knew had forgot one. Eventhough, I am from above the Mason-Dixon line, I'm still a Southern-girl at heart when it comes to my Blues. My parents raised me on the Blues. Also, I also get a kick out of singing the Blues sometimes. razz

nod I couldn't agree with you more. As a matter of fact, I saw Millie in concert with Bobby Blue Bland and B.B. King a couple a years and she used to tour with Johnnie Taylor in the 70's/late 60's. My parents would never miss her shows.
