MECO Appreciation Thread

My mom used to have THIS 8-TRACK in the car at all times, and we used to drive around in her big ol' Dodge Rambler and blast the Intergalactic Funk, complete with Disco Cantina Band, Disco Darth and the Funky R2. dancing jig

But Meco also did disco versions of Close Encounters, Superman, The Wizard of Oz and a bunch of other crazy stuff....and every once in a while, I gotta throw on my BEST OF MECO CD and cheeze out to the space funk.

What's yer fave Meco foolishness?

Whoa, talk about a blast from the past! I agree though - MECO was a genius! I have no idea what became of him, as his sound seemed to be that of the future (especially if you liked disco and Georgio Moroder).

One of MECO's lesser-known works is his version of "Wizard of Oz." I know it sounds corny - but it is amazing! For years I always wanted to replace my (1978?) yello vinyl 33" for a CD version. Through the bootleggers at eBay, I got one and have been amazed again! I've often thought how cool it would be to hear this kind of stuff - "Oz" and "Star Wars" - updated with today's synthesized sounds. Hell, I've always wondered what "Wizard of Oz" would have sounded like if Prince had done the music. Hmm, think about that... Wait, that's the subject of another thread.

Anyway - I agree, MECO was great and I loves me my "Oz" soundtrack. If you haven't heard it or don't have it, try looking for it and give it a spin!

I admit... I have also one Meco album from the early 80's giggle he's doing medleys of dozens of movie songs and soundtracks on it. that was released in the heat of the medley craze, started by Stars on 45

I guess haven't listened to that one in over 20 years lol
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

OK, I admit it,too boxed...I had Both Star Wars and other Galactic Funk AND Encounters Of Every Kind, lol ....

to further add to his infamy, he produced Kenny G's first solo album:

... wasn't completely horrible, but because of what came after, Meco's probably gonna take the Coal Cart to Hell for that alone, lol....
