U.K. release date for 'Supernature' is August 22nd. The video for the first single "Ooh La La" is very glam like someone said before. Musically, it sounds similar to "Train", but with more of a rock edge. Oh dear. I just read that the U.S. release date for the album has been pushed back to February 2006. I will most likely buy the import in August then. Unlike St. Etienne, no way can I wait until next year for new Goldfrapp. U.S. edit [Edited 6/27/05 16:09pm] daaamn....that's a long time. I'm kinda anxious to hear what the rock influence is gonna sound like. I hope the whole album isn't going in the rock direction though. I really like the semi-industrial sound on Train, and I hope more songs from their new album are gonna be like. To all my little Hulkamaniacs, say your prayers, take your vitamins and you will never go wrong.

they've released so much good stuff over the past few years, though - they can certainly afford to chill for a while. From what I can gather, they don't ever stop, even when a band member dies. But I always think it's better to have too much than to forget about somebody. Do you have their "Switched On" series of comps? They look really yummy.

Hmmm. I'm gonna have to relisten to 'Misadventures' because I love 'Finisterre', but didn't think 'Misadventures' was all that when I listened to it way back when. I have the CD-R my friend gave me lying around here somewhere...

Here's what AMG has to say about it... Refried Ectoplasm: Switched On, Vol. 2 collects 13 singles and rarities Stereolab released between 1992 and 1995, and it is far more than a mere oddities collection. More than any other album, Refried Ectoplasm charts Stereolab's astonishing musical growth between those three years, and offers several definitive songs — including "Lo Boob Oscillator," "French Disko," and "John Cage Bubblegum" — not available on any album. While such items are essential for collectors, the quality and accessibility of the music is very strong, showcasing Stereolab's complexity and providing an excellent introduction to the group. They seem pretty hot on Transient Random Noise Bursts and Mars Audiac Quintet too.

Have you heard 'em before? yeah - i had a roommate who had both CDs - i liked them, but at the time i was really into 'dots and loops' and 'emperor tomato catsup', which i guess i still am.

I'm very excited to dig in. you'll really like margarine eclipse and sound dust - they're all over the place on those albums. i don't think you can go wrong with any of their albums, though. there are none of 'em that i think are duds.

That's pretty much what I've been reading - that they're beyond criticism at this point cuz they're so flawless at what they do. Basically the only critique that could be levelled at them is if you just don't like the style itself.

There are some minor rock elements like handclaps to give it more of it's own identity, but Goldfrapp haven't really turned into a T.Rex clone yet. Although looking at the video you might think they have.
