Z CULT FAVORITE / Masterblaster (Jamming) Stevie Wonder

Hey ya'll, is this song killin' or what? Stevie's "Masterblaster" (Jamming) off of one of his best albums "Hotter Than July" from 1980. A tribute to another great, Bob Marley, this song is sooooo good. It's the type of thing that ONLY Stevie could do. I remember before this hit, the word was that Stevie had kinda already peaked. He had seemingly hit his zenith with his masterpiece double album, PLUS BONUS ep "Songs In The Key Of Life" from 76. But baby, when "Masterblaster" (Jamming) hit that summer of 80, all the doubters was hushed...quick. Stevie brought the beauty and fun of reggae music straight to the pop masses with this. Again, what had become common place with Stevie, this sounded NOTHING like anything else on the radio at the time. And also like so many of Stevie's best songs, this song had people of all races and ages, whenever they heard it, they became happy. Some danced and others bobbed their heads or patted their feet. This is a great one. Who else digs this song?

nod BG Baby, you know Legs is on it. I remember just like it was yesterday when the song dropped. The lyrics and rhythm pattern are what stay in you mind.Once you vibe on this cut you'll never forget it.

Yes. To me, Stevie is one of the most spiritually connected artists that has ever lived.

RipHer2Shreds

One of his best 80s tunes. Whitney murdered it during her tour that was televised on HBO around 1995 or so.

Preach B. Was it 1980? (Damn..I'm old). Didn't Stevie also pen "Try Jah Love" for Third World? Stevie "went an dun braided his hair" and "didn't mind if we stared". Stevie could do no wrong in the 70's and early 80's.

Spy Baby, you're right. Steve did co-write Try Jah Love. As a matter fact, he played keyboards on the track. I remember seeing him performing the song on Soul Train with them.

Age ain't nothin' but a number, playboy. And more than that, a state of mind.
