The Dancefloor Report (Late June 2005)

Here's a new series of threads I'm starting on the org. About the dance music community, for the dance music community.

Jonathan Peters - All This Time (feat. Sylver Logan Sharp)

This is the summer dance song of 2005. Released last year, but steadily gaining momentum since being recorded in 2003, the tune has now taken over the New York dance scene. It's currently a staple on KTU and is only getting bigger as the summer progresses. The track, produced by premier dance DJ Jonathan Peters, is a pulsating house number guided by the church-y roar of vocalist Sylver Logan Sharp -- who is a member of CHIC avec Nile Rodgers and Audra Lomax. The groove of this gem is undeniable. Uplifting keyboards and etheral vocals make this one shine.

  • 2005 has had its share of updated mixes of '80s classics -- most notably Max Graham's 2005 reworking of Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and Inaya Day's clubland revival of Vanity 6's "Nasty Girl." Now add a new mix to this list... Flashdance. Yep, the leg warmers and off-the-shoulder shirts are back in vogue on NYC dancefloors, musically. Digital Offspring have updated the track in the spirited "Flashdance... What A Feeling (Make It Happen Mix)". Spacious with scant vocals, its mainly a dub workout that makes great use of Moroder's original synth-melody.

  • Great news for Janet fans, DJ John Rizzo out of New York has mixed a floor-thumping update of the dance queen's classic "Miss You Much". It is a 2005 white label and is currently unavailable for retail. You can only hear the track via his live DJ sets. It's pure NY progressive loveliness with a hot echo-chamber breakbeat. The breakdown of this song is AMAZING. Be on the lookout for this track. I expect it to impact this fall.
