I agree. It's funny that they issued a "Gold" collection (the "Gold" CDs are double sets that are released by artists who have been victims of having their material being reiussed far too many times on compiltions....most of them are incomplete although Donna Summer's really does her justice!) of his stuff. It features far fewer tracks but might be cheaper. In fact, eveyone one of the songs on there is on here (except "Can't Stop").

Yeah, and if you're going to get the Street Songs album, get the deluxe edition version Motown/Universal distributed back in 2001. That one has an exciting live concert Rick did back in 1981 at Long Beach, CA. It really wroth it!

I have all the Rick James albums but I had to buy this compilation for the unreleased songs that are highlighted in red. "Starship" is a decent remake of Norman Conner's "You Are My Starship" but no one can do it better than Norman. I didn't care too much for the other three previous unreleased songs but hey, it's Rick James and, just like Prince, if Rick made it....I gotta have it. lol

I'm a sucker for a megamix so The "Medley" is one of the reasons I bought this one. It is good but it could have been better. I like for the songs to overlap in a megamix and these didn't. They were edited pretty good though.

This is a must have for any Rick James fan. Like you said, the live concert is absolutely great. Also, it contains the 12 Inch version of "Give It To Me Baby" and the baaaaadddd aaaasssss 12 Inch version of "Super Freak".

Here I am. lol There are some decent compilations out there but there is nothing like a good Rick James album in it's entirety. Rick really could do some great albums from start to finish and the order of the songs on the albums were great also. Also, compilations are always going to leave out some great songs such as "Spacey Love".....one of the baddest slow jams of all time. To truly experience Rick James and appreciate him, you need a turntable. biggrin

Yes you need a turntable to truly experence the PUNK FUNK, the record companies have yet to put out a Rick James comp that I liked from front to back. They miss too many songs for me, it's sad how much they miss. All the true Rick James and The Stone City Band fans know where I'm coming from.

I gotta disagree with you,Stymie. This Anthology looks great, but there are some major problems with this set.The version of "Big Time" is lame....it's not nearly as powerful as the album version.I love the idea of including key album tracks on compilations, but why use a boring song like "Island Lady" instead of the slow jam classic "Spacey Love"?? And where is "Ghetto Life"? It's also a shame that they used a single edit of "17".Likewise,the 1986 single "Sweet and Sexy Thing" is presented in a lame remix form....you only get the first verse, the chorus, and the rest is mostly instrumental.Wtf? To those of you looking for a great Rick James compialtion, skip this one.Instead,go get the 2-CD set 'Bustin Out' which was released in 1994.

This is the best Rick James compilation so far. It's missing a few singles, but it includes all the major jams. And there are several new songs on the second disc.

nod I couldn't agree with you more about having Slick stuff on wax Vain. I still have a collection of 45s. Of course, alot of the folks aren't old school funkateers like us and won't be able to get their hands on the real deal without going to ebay and putting up a fight. Be Funky ain't always easy but rewarding. lol fro
