anybody else love prefab sprout?

such an underrated band and paddy mcaloon is one of the best songwriters of the last 20 years....i let someone borrow my copy of their greatest hits and i never got it back....and i started to really miss all those wonderfully timeless songs he wrote so i had to go out and buy it again which is a true sign of great music you cant live without.

I was just talking to theAudience about Prefab Sprout! One of my favorite groups! Paddy McAloon and company, ably assisted by Mr. Thomas Dolby! Steve McQueen/Two Wheels Good and Jordan the Comeback are my favorites! I agree, definitely one of the most gifted songwriters of the last 20 years....their sound was like a mix of Dolby, Steely Dan, Burt Bacharach, Elvis Costello, Marvin Gaye and Jimmy Webb, if that makes any sense (probably doesn't, , but....)

extremely anti-trendy, but one of my favourite pop tunes is 'the king of rock and roll' by prefab sprout.

Yes, I like them, though my enthusiasm has waned some over the years. The first side of Steve McQueen is fairly perfect and Jordan is a classic for that kind of record. Andromeda Heights really didn't work for me at all, though Prisoner of the Past might be my favourite Prefab song, and I thought The Gunman...was return-ish to form.

I can't say I'm a fan (perhaps I should get into them a bit more), but I think Paddy McAloon is a great songwriter. And I love that "Appetite" song. nod

yeah, that's one of the those tunes that sounds ridiculous at first, then it gets stuck in your head , and you can't shake it...

" Hot Dog, Jumpin' Frog,
"Albuquerque...."

I have always wondered if there was any difference between Steve Maqueen and Two Wheels Good. Which one is rare? And this is one of my all-time favorite albums. Would have loved to see them live.

The album was originally called Steve McQueen, but in the U.S., they had to change the name, because of objections from Steve McQueen's estate, so here in the U.S., they changed it to "Two Wheels Good"....same songs, although on the Two Wheels Good CD, there are extra tracks: The Yearning Loins, He'll Have To Go and Faron(Truckin' Mix)....

BTW, the band name Prefab Sprout has no meaning whatsoever. Paddy McAloon just made up the odd name, partly in homage to the longwinded and silly band names prevalent in the late 60's/ early'70s.
