RENO, Nev. - Washoe County Department of Regional Parks and Open Space is currently processing customer refund requests for a concert last Saturday night at their Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater inside Bartley Ranch Regional Park.

More than an hour after the opening folk act ended its performance, Southern folk-rock headliner Lucinda Williams had not taken the stage and then performed only an hour before terminating the concert at approximately 11 p.m.

"We are in our sixth season at Hawkins Amphitheater and this has never happened," said Parks Director Karen Mullen. "The situation was beyond our control, but we genuinely regret the inconvenience to our customers and we will review our policies and artist contracts to be sure this doesn't happen again."

Williams was on site at Hawkins Amphitheater in her tour bus, but no explanation was provided to County staff by the artist or her road management as to why she did not begin performing in a timely manner.

Scheduled to perform at 9:00 pm, Lucinda Williams and her band did not begin performing until approximately 10:00 pm, when most of those in attendance had departed the Amphitheater after waiting almost an hour. Williams and her band came on stage and played for about one hour until nearly 11 p.m., the typical ending time for summer concerts. The opening folk act started the show at the posted 8 p.m. concert time.

Most concertgoers purchased tickets by credit card, and County staff is now providing automatic credits back to those accounts. For customers who purchased tickets using cash or a check, they may call the Parks Administration office at xxx-xxxx to provide name, address and other details of their purchase. Refund checks will be issued from the County within about two weeks. Refunds can only be issued to the original ticket purchasers.

"We run the theater as a business, and people shouldn't have to wait. We are working to seek recovery of costs for this show," Mullen said.

Yeah, they deserve a refund.

She performed, just late.
