I LOVE ska. One Step Beyond is one of my favorite albums of all time. "Night Boat to Cairo" is probably my favorite track from the album.

Their debut was perfect....not a bad song on it.

And nothin' brightens my day like The Specials's version of Pressure Drop. I love Toots's version, but the Specials is a little more upbeat.

Madness are a great, highly under-rated band! headbang

Because of their wry humour and the comedy of their videos, they are dismissed as a novelty band, but there is a strong melancholy feel to much of their work and lyrically they are up there with Morrissey in describing a certain type of Englishness.

But nevermind all that, I saw them live a couple of years ago and they BLEW the place apart! It was at our local arena-cum-aircraft-hangar-cum-cattleshed, you know, the type of place where atmosphere just ain't gonna happen...yet the air was electric with people grinning from ear to ear. I have genuinely never seen a happier crowd at a concert.

Madness are a national treasure and I am proud as fuck of them nod

When I was in high school my friend's older borther was in a ska band. We used to travel around the midwest with them for their shows (OK, we went with them to Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago a time or two...). So I did the whole ska thing for a year or so. smile
Of the other bands around at that time, I remember Skankin Pickle & Let's Go Bowling the most.

omg

I still have my flight jacket w/ a Let's Go Bowling patch on it! (somewhere in my parents basement still lol ) I used to go see them in S.F. in high school when I lived there, and then I moved back to Mpls. and would see them there when they toured. nod

This song gives me massive 80's flashback. I fondly remember seeing these blokes on The Young One and Top Of The Pops.
